and my heart is breaking Sad

Polly was 17, she had EMS, arthritis and had tipped into laminitis over the last couple of days. It was very, very peaceful which was all I could have hoped for.

RIP Polly, practically perfect in every way 🙂

Thanks I'm sorry for your loss OP.
Your Polly looks a lot like my Lady who was pts 19 years ago now. It is heartbreaking but I'm glad it was peaceful for you both. Take care of yourself and take comfort that she is peaceful and in no pain now.

So sorry, many of us have been there. A very hard decision, but it sounds like the right one for you.
RIP, Polly Flowers

Thank you everyone for all your kind messages.

Feeling a bit numb today but definitely the right decision, it was always going to end this way. We’d been battling losing battle with the EMS for some time and at the end of last year it was obvious I could no longer ride her so we decided to give her a bit of a retirement til the hot weather and grass got the better of us. The weather was kind to us, being a cooler than average spring, so gave us a bit longer together. My DH was diagnosed with bladder cancer on New Year’s Eve (unfortunately caught in time before it had spread) and she got me through the stress or dealing with him and his chemo treatment and I am so grateful for that 🙂.

She owed me nothing and this was the last thing I could do for her.

Thanks again everyone.

What an absolutely awful time you have had, really hope your DH is on the road to recovery. Animals bring so much to our lives it’s just so heartbreaking their lives are way too short, sounds like Polly had the best final weeks and a peaceful end bless her, this will be the worst time for you OP, hopefully over the coming weeks it will start to feel a little less raw, look after yourself xxx

So sorry. The days after are very hard especially when they played such an important role in your life. They leave a massive hole in your heart for sure. But as a responsible owner you’ve made the right call, despite being a difficult one.

I'm so sorry. Polly is beautiful Flowers . Having any animal but especially a horse PTS is so hard, even when it's 100% absolutely the right decision. Don't let anyone make you feel silly/OTT for being really sad about it and take all the time you need to grieve.

Have you got some keepsakes from her, I still treasure the lock of hair from my first horse who we had to have PTS after colicing, you can get them made into lovely jewellery or keyrings?

What a gorgeous girl she is, you love her very much and I’m sure she loved you equally.

It never gets easier no matter how many pets you had.

What you had together sounds incredibly special and she just fell asleep surrounding and supported by her favourite person x

Your kind messages have started me off againSad

I’ve got all her forelock and loads of mane and tailSmile

I started riding 10yrs ago after a 20 yr break and got her soon after. She was everything I needed and wanted. We had a close bond and I stayed with her right til the end feeding her favourite bananas. Had an extremely experienced equine vet do it, it was literally like her falling asleep in the sunshine Smile

Thank you again for your lovely messages.

Am so very sorry OP.

Good for you for being brave and making the call before she got too bad and could still go out with peace and dignity.

You were lucky to have each other. Flowers
