Pregnant with no.2. With my first YO wouldn't let me ride, so I probably only rode two or three times.

Now 19 weeks and still hacking 2-3 times a week, horse is very sensible and I'm only walking and trotting.

How long did you manage to keep riding for? I'm SUPER cautious as a rider, always have been so I don't feel it's a 'risk' (although of course we all know it is etc etc) but I love riding it keeps me sane and tbh fattie needs the work!

How long did you manage to keep on plodding for?

Used to know a woman who hunted up until a week before the birth, didn't do the jumps though, and was back out again a week afterwards. She did this with all 4 of her children.
After the girth, nanny had to follow the hunt by car with the newborn, so that mum could hop off her horse to breastfeed when needed!
I kid you not!

Anyway, good luck and congrats, just ride until you start to feel uncomfortable I would say.

After the birth, not girth!

DC1 36 weeks, DC2 & 3 (twins) 29 weeks. DC 4 37 weeks. I only rode 2 of my horses Iwho I was confident that they were sensible) though. After 16 weeks in all 3 pregnancies DH followed me in the car when I was hacking or watched from the kitchen window if I was in the arena. I rode after between a week and 3 weeks after I had the children. I may have ridden 2 days after DC1 but would never tell DH

I rode until I was 8 months and only stopped because the pommel was bumping my bump when I trotted.
I did the Mary townley loop (three day ride) when I was 5 months pregnant with my fourth. My horse was very sensible and trustworthy though.

very sensible highland pony - 7 months, couldn't get into jodhpurs after that and felt a bit uncomfortable.

Jods are sorted, I made the mistake of buying some Aldi ones, that were supposedly small but are now lovingly called my maternity jods on account of their very roomy waistband!

Pleased to know that sensible riding is feasible for a while longer, how do you dismount when you get bigger? The lady that taught me to ride as a child was well into her 70s, she used to swing her right leg over the horses head to get off because of her sciatica, I think I may have to start doing that, or get off back onto the block!

5 1/2 months after I hit the deck when a dog ran at one of the yard dogs I was hacking out with and they got into a scrap under my horses legs.

Thankfully landed on my bum but it was enough to give me a bit of a fright and I didn't ride again until after the birth.

I went to 5 months with both pregnancies, then I got too big and heavy for my 13h pony! I also carry big so got to bump hitting pommel quickly. Dpony is as safe as a pony can be and I stuck to just gentle hacking so it was as low level risk as it could be. Had I had a bigger one with the same temperament and not carried so large I would have carried on longer. But it's different for everyone, I think you have to listen to your instincts, only you really know how your body and mind feel with it and how you feel with your horse.
