What saddle for extremely flat backed, overweight cob?

We just bought a very overweight cob that has an extremely flat/ fat back! She came with a 'Maxam' saddle which the owners say they have been riding her in ehe last 6 months... it measures 8" from D ring to D ring and definitely far too narrow (actually I'm not sure why she hasn't bucked her off!) and the saddle is constantly slipping when you ride in it/ get on. I want to keep it synthetic if possible, but does anyone know what brand of saddle to go for until she looses weight? I had a saddle fitter out this morning who was trying to sell me a 700 pound English leather saddle that was 11" between D rings, but I simply don't have the £ to spend that sort of money on a saddle at the moment...

I had a Saddle Company Verona Cob for my fatty. Loved it! I sold mine for £250 so you should be able to pick one up fairly easily/cheaply. It's adjustable too.

Mine's got a Wintec Wide which is adjustable. We've never had any problems with it and it's so comfortable.

I always tell my saddle fitter what my budget is, so he doesn't waste both of our time by bringing anything too expensive...

Buy a used synthetic saddle with an adjustable gullet, and get it corrected fitted with the right gullet. Thorowgoods are good for this, not so keen on Wintecs. Work out what weight your horse should be and work towards getting it down to a sensible weight. Have your saddle fit checked every few months while losing weight. While losing weight, save a bit each month for a decent saddle. Good adjustable saddles looked after well always retain their resale value. I'm on the lookout for a little Thorowgood atm for our new pony for exactly the same reason!

I have a very flat backed welsh D and I have a Shires Optimus Puissance with an extra-wide gullet. It fits brilliantly.

I'm sure there is also a native pony specific saddle company but I've forgotten their name
