WHSmith "Win a Pony" Competition - did you?

If you were a pony lover in the 70s, do you remember the Win A Pony for a year comp that was run through WH Smith? Did you enter? Did you win? Or is this all just a distance dream like endless summer holidays and full-sugar squash for every drink??

I remember a competition but the one I remember I reckon was in a pony magazine. Not sure if it was linked to Smiths.

I still remember the pony which the girl won, it was a really nice grey. Think it was called Millie.

I think there was one in Horse and Pony magazine when I was a kid. This was mid 90s. I also entered one at Ponies UK around that time.
My favourite book was Jackie won a Pony.

That's it, Horse and Pony magazine. Was Mishka not Millie. They used to do follow up photo shoots with the girl that won him/her.

I remember entering that, and really thinking I'd win (I was about 8). You had to stroke your w h smiths receipt to the entry form Grin

Staple, not stroke Wink

I entered the Whip Smiths one several years running.
I have since made up for never winning a pony Grin

Yes always entered WH Smith comp but never won. And I remember the Horse and Pony mag comp as well. At least they gave you the feeling you could win. I recently saw a competition to win a horse and about £20,000 worth of gear to go with it (think it was in Your Horse but might have been one of the others) and it wouldn't be worth someone like me even entering. You had to pass all these riding tests to prove you could jump a puissance and go round Badminton blindfold.

I entered the H&P one every year. And the Your Horse one. A girl (woman) on a yard I used to help out on as a kid won a horse with the YH one. As she was the editors best friend I kind of lost faith in the unpredictability-ness of the winners after that.

I always enter the one to win a horsebox, it would be fantastic to have transport. It usually goes to someone who already has a fancy four wheel drive car and a trailer but is 'thrilled to be upgrading' .

I remember it well. You had to enclose a WHSmiths receipt with your entry and I recall scrabbling on the floor in the shop to find one.
You had to write some kind of rhyme or slogan, mine ended "Smiths, Smiths, Smiths!" I was convinced I would win ...

Intriguing... This is what I need to hear - about the editor's best friend winning... At least SOMEONE one...

I have never tried to enter the YH one either. They would not be interested in a Happy Hacker like me!

Yes! I entered every one I could find, I wanted to be just like Jackie!

I remember posting 10 postcards with answer on once

I entered religiously, living in London I used to dream about keeping him on the local rec (next to A4 and railway) and how wonderful life would be. Funnily I was talking about this with friends recently.
