Just wanted to share a picture from my incredible hack today. We went through the forest, down to the creek and everything was glowing. The forest floor was carpeted with golden leaves, the sun was shining and there were red and yellow leaves still drifting down from the trees. Magical. Plus, DHorse was an angel...I swear he was enjoying it as much as I was.

Anyone else had any good hacks lately?

Envy

it's been 18 years since I've ridden a horse (I'm too geriatric and breakable now sadly) but those lovely pricked up ears in front of you Smile

Did you get to the bottom of the hill then turn round and gallop sedately canter back up?

thank you for posting :)

Noooo...70 you're NEVER too old!

We walked back up this hill because there are lots of roots and rocks and things hidden under the leaves, but when we got back to the open, grassy bit of the trail there was a bit of unsolicited galloping and an excited buck very enthusiastic cantering. I was quick to bring him under control however, given that I am not a gifted and highly skilled horsewoman Wink.

Brings back such lovely memories! I haven't had a horse since the children came along. Still miss it terribly!

70 you are never too old - I hack out with an 84 yr old gent! Doses himself up to help his knees before he rides and now rides western as he finds it more secure. He hacks out for miles on his own too!

Oscar it looks beautiful where you ride. I, too, am extremely lucky and have access to loads of hacking on a private estate with woods, farm tracks, fields and private roads. The bluebells are spectacular in the spring! (Photo attached just as they were starting last year!)

Will try and take some over weekend of the carpet of leaves. I feel very blessed when I am riding Smile

Nawww!!! I love pics from the back of a horse with their ears in the pic Grin.

They look lovely. I am jealous of the clean shiny manes. Dhorse always seems to have a clump of mud somewhere by his ears that I don't see until I get on!

Flexi, it is very unusual for my Dpony to be that clean (it was very dry when that photo was taken), she is the skankiest mare on the yard, being grey and currently unrugged!!!! It is a tad embarrassing when passing all the racehorses looking beautiful and I'm on a bog pony Grin.

Counting that's gorgeous! Very Envy of your bluebell woods. Bluebells don't grow like that here.

Flex DHorse is very rarely super-shiny clean. It takes AGES to get him dust-free as he takes his turnout playtime very seriously (rolling in the mud). There's a pic on my profile of what he looks like BEFORE I start grooming Grin.

Picture from my most exciting hack - on a safari in South Africa - you can see the rhinos between the horse's ears!

I can see I'm going to have to try and get a between-the-ears pic sometime (am always afraid I will drop my phone/camera) but it will probably show a bus or some roadworks! Poor old dhorse has never been in the woods, we haven't any for miles Sad.

Omg rhinos on safari! I have always wanted to do a horse trek in Africa. And even better, a chestnut Grin.

Pixel, I'd LOVE road-hack pictures! You can't do that anywhere near me so I think that's really cool!

Ruby Wow! That's incredibly beautiful Smile.

Another 'through the ears' - racehorse exercising in the snow.

I haven't managed a between the ear pic yet! Envy
The 'trend' came in just after I stopped riding years ago to have ds didnt have smartphones then either

On the cards for our next ride out! Grin
Seriously jealous of the fab off road riding! We have a good mix of country lanes as we are on the edge of town but to get properly off road its a good couple of hours ride.

Ruby I think you are winning the award for the best hacks/pics so far Grin - a safari ride Envy

Attached a picture from my hack on Saturday, weather was gorgeous. Not much of a carpet of leaves yet, trees appear to be hanging on to them down here ATM and it would have been a "between the ears" shot but Dpony decided the greenery looked rather tasty so it's an "ear in the corner before Counting takes an unscheduled trip into the woods" shot!

You just got an ear in there counting Grin

The Doghouse has someone asking about what dog and everyone posts photos of their canines.
A thread on Tack Room has gorgeous photos of life looked at between a pair of pointy ears Grin

I really couldn't contemplate getting back in the saddle. I have back problems ( RTA x3) , I'm the sole driver so if I was out of action, we'd be stuck. Dodgy bladder after 2 DC (I'd be worrying all the time Blush )

I tried to get DD following in my boot prints (she wanted to ride a horse at 4yo) but she was put off after a fall so I let it slide and she never wanted to try again.

It's nice to look at the photos and remember the very carefree days when I was looking through a pair of pointy ears Grin

Went for a hack yesterday but sadly no pictures. We went from stables down to the beach and paddled. Lovely.

Off to nz in 3 weeks and am going The Lord of the rings hack. Cannot wait.
