I've just bought my first horse! Am feeling a mixture of excitement and fear as its a massive step! shock

In all seriousness though, I got totally fed up trying & continually failing to conceive month after month, putting my life on hold "in case this month's the month"... Does anyone else understand?? sad

Anyway...I've expanded the my own special way...

If there are other sympathetic horsey mums out there, I'll probably appreciate lots of advice & guidance over the coming months...!

Thanks for listening...

Congratulations! What type/breed, what are your plans? I've had my own horse (after a long break from horses whilst breeding) for 4 years now and he keeps me sane. I'm sure I'd be a psychopath without him grin

Hard work and in winter it can be grim, but its all worth it when I'm out on him.

Its a huge responsibility and I know that overwhelming feeling you'll be having right now. Do you have lots of support/good instructor? I have found my instructor fantastic not just the riding side but those care worries(is he too hot/cold/fat/thin/etc)..

Keep us updated!

Thanks IDo...

She's a friesian x warmblood.. Only 7 but seems to be so gentle and patient and has a heart of gold...

I'm quite a sensible and logical person, but nothing quite seems enough knowledge to put my mind at rest right now..

She's at a lovely livery yard and I'm learning things very quickly..

Any advice on whether to join a riding club or not?

Thanks grin

I think 7's a nice age - I got my boy when he was 7, its ben nice growing with him and bringing him on as he was quite green when I got him.

Riding clubs a good idea - great if you can find one that runs lots of clinics ad lessons you can get out too - ours put on a small show in the summer which is a great confidemce booster - something for everyone there. They also do Le Trec stuff too. Go for it!

My top tip is to buy a coat that washes/dries easiliy. Mines in the wash all the time, otherwise I stink the house for my car - its shameful!

Ooh, how lovely!

I spent the few days between buying our horse and getting him in a complete panic, and the next few weeks in not much less of a panic! grin

Congratulations, I hope you have many happy years with your new arrival. My second child is going to be a horse, when I find the right one! Gave up after 2 years TTC, and need something to do while DS is at school, on the days I'm not working. smile

Wonderful news, can we have some pics please?

Pixel Thu 28-Feb-13 16:57:25

N0tinmylife I gave up TTC number 2 after 2.5 years (tried everything but decided to draw the line at IVF) and got two adorable little curly-whiskered guinea pigs to be my 'babies'. Nine months later I had ds!
Totally understand about not putting your life on hold as it really does take over, and I can't think of a better way to do it than to get a horse!

Pixel Thu 28-Feb-13 16:58:33

Oops sorry, think I've got you a bit mixed up with Mu51cal who is after all the OP blush.

pipsy76 Thu 28-Feb-13 17:16:36

Ohh congratulations and just as the weather is improving, good timing!

I got my first horse as a grown up a month ago and am loving being a horse owner!!

Have fun!
