All The Queens Horses...

I didn't realise it was on and only caught the last half hour (which was amazing - and very moving when the Queen was visibly teary seeing her lovely Highlands and Fells and her racehorses). Does anyone know if it is being televised again as DD and I would both love to see it from the beginning?

Hope you're all having a lovely horsey Jubilee. Smile

It was on ITV so maybe you could try the ITV player online?

I've just watched it as I had to record it earlier. Loved seeing the Queen's native ponies and show horses and I noticed that Queen couldn't help giving a little wave when her carriage horses came in Smile. Was a bit miffed that the camera lingered longer on Susan Boyle than it did on the horses! I mean, I don't mind her, and her singing was lovely but the caption on each horse came up really slowly so by the time I'd read it there was only a quick glimpse of the horse and it was back to lingering on SB. Oh well.
Liked the mounties and the australian riders with Rolf Harris singing. Actually they were all great (were the cossacks the same ones we've seen at Olympia I wonder?), except I wasn't sure what I thought of the chilean horses. They were the only ones who looked to be obeying out of fear to me. None of them looked happy.

How come Alan Titchmarsh has become a royal expert all of a sudden?

I thought it was lovely and a really good show much better than the rubbishy looking flotilla thing but I wish there had been a bit more showing of all the horses for example the Marwari horse as they are so unusual and beautiful you need to see them in a bit of detail (that's being really picky but agree with the SuBo comment!).

Truly wonderful and quite the show!

We really enjoyed it,but I was a bit miffed that there was very little publicity about it,if I hadn't read about it elsewhere,we wouldn't have known it was on.The dds liked the cossacks best and now want to be stunt riders.Hmm.You can tell the Queen really loves her horses, can't you?

Since the title was "All the Queen's Horses" it could have done more showing of said horses! We just didn't see enough of them - the Cossacks were amazing (and possibly mad), and the parade of HM's horses was a tear jerker.

I loved the cossacks as well!

Some odd slow-mo camera work with extreme close ups but overall loved it.

I agree, not much publicity about if at all. I don't understand why this country is no longer proud of its equestrian achievements. There used to be a time (70's iir) when show jumping taught football a thing or two.

We do so well in equestrian events especially dressage, para dressage, eventing, polo, endurance etc and win golds left right and centre and unless it's about Zara (no bad thing but there are others!!) there's rarely a whisper of it. Very unfair IMO. Angry

IMO it's to do with "perceived elitism". :(

Absolutely agree with you Stinky.I remember back in the 70's watching the showjumping with my mum and her telling me to watch how Harvey Smith rode and kept his heels down.

Agree with you too Butkin, there aren't any other sports where disabled people can compete on an almost level playing field,or where the competitors are over 40 and still world class, but there is still the 'elitist' tag.Sad Sadly,my friend who is fairly new to horses, refused to countenance her daughter joining PC as 'it is full of snobs'.Now her dd has lost interest and the pony has gone.

It was on ITV, and actually rather disappointing and they showed so little of the horses. As they clearly meant "general light entertainment programme from Windsor Horse Show, but showing singers, narrators and archive footage, and only the bare minimum of equines" then I wish they had chosen a different title.

Absolutely Mirage, the best thing about equestrianism as a sport is that everybody competes on an equal level men, women and those with disabilities.

Also agree with the 'elitist' tag though I'd like to point out that I recently discovered that if you are a football fan, having an away membership (I know nothing about football, but I mean the the ticket thing when you go abroad) actually costs more than both my horses!!

My friend is a millionaire, and bought some eventers, huge lorry, had an olympic size school built, along with a beautiful stable yard, then sold them all when he found that they were losing him money! If only he'd asked, anyone could have told him that you don't make money on horses.Luckily for us,he still has the school and is kind enough to let us use it.

Mirage - tell us how you met this friend - I think we could all use a friend or two like that! Wink Does he still have the horsebox?

I met him out beating, years ago,but he lives in the village, opposite our yard.He is such a nice guy.His wife is a celeb, but he made his own money and I think he ran his horses like a business, they lost money,so they went.He sold the lorry, but the gorgeous quadrangle stable yard is still sitting there unused, which is a bit sad really. There is only me and one other local lady he lets use the school,so that is unused much of the time too.
