Body protector for skinny six year old boy

Hi all - I know nothing at all about horses but am hoping someone might be able to give me some advice! DS has been learning to ride for a while now and is apparently to be promoted to the "big school" and needs a body protector. I've measured him (chest 55cm, waist 51cm, waist to waist over shoulder about 66-68cm, back 36 cm. Have managed to confuse myself looking at online websites, as they have a wide variety (and sometimes inadequate) sizing info.. I know it needs to fit properly but unfortunately there isn't a real life store convenient to us, and I don't drive... anyone have any suggestions based on experience? Also are some brands notoriously better than others?

DS has Rodney Powell body protectors (average width tall 5 yr old), and the fitter told us they are easiest to fit on children as there is a really good variety of shape available. If you look on their website there is a size calculator and you can call them for advice on fitting

Agree with Rodney Powell ones - the ones you zip up the front. DD got hers when 6 and still fits well at 8 as you can make it bigger with the panel at the back. Comfortable and secure.

Legal - we had DD measured for hers at Burghley and expect it to be a tight fit and I doubt your DS will be able to zip it up himself to start with although it does get easier once worn in.

The new style Rodney powell is much easier to do up as the velcro is both sides, so you can release one side, zip, and redo. Am tempted to replace mine

I was going to suggest checking out the second hand rails at the local tack shops, then I read you don't have any! In terms of what they cost and how long it will fit, I'd be tempted to either take a trip out to a shop, try some on to get the sizes and then keep an eye on eBay. They aren't like hats that might have hidden damage, as long as it's fairly new and fits properly, it would be ok. [pony on a shoestring emoticon]
