First in tops up the gin supplies and turns on the tea urn.

Hey there. 🙂

Don't think I've ever seen a tea urn in a school.

May I moan?

Oldie but goldie: why the hell is it OK that everyone is an education expert?

Just been treated to a person giving me a lecture about why our local school is doing education all wrong.

Does the person have a PhD/research career in educational research? No. Does the person have a PGCE? No. Does the person have ^any experience of having even worked inside a school in any capacity at all? No.

Annoyingly, she's an ex-civil servant, so presumably spent some time in her career making evidence-based decisions, so must surely have some degree of self-awareness ...

Sorry for ranting in the broom cupboard ... but it does annoy me.

The self appointed experts are the worst!

Oh, but just about everyone went to school once upon a time, so are therefore Experts.

Honestly, I usually just let it wash over me. I just guess I expected something a little more thoughtful from this person.

Morning all. Off to school to tidy my pit others have left in a state classroom.

Are you sure? I've watched Yes Minister...

I am trying to phone school to check it's open but just have hideous hold music playing at me and it tells me I'm number 1 in the queue and then it boots me out. Would normally just stroll round but I am lugging books and don't want to lug them only to find it locked up. Irksome.

On the plus side I have finally marked a set of year essays that I've been ignoring for at least 3 weeks - my efficiency has plummeted since Easter. I'd like to go collect the other set that needs marking so I don't start the term with a backlog though I'm tempted to just make up the marks on the system, bin their books and claim they must haven't lost with all the moving around Grin Best not.

I have a really annoying neighbour who was privately educated, has no children and who has never worked in education who spent half an hour, when I told her I was a teacher, telling me everything that was, in her opinion, wrong about the state education system in this country. (I did find subsequently that she criticised the library service to a librarian and the funeral industry to a funeral director, so to be fair she was a self appointed expert in pretty much everything.)

Oh everyone is an expert in education. To be fair to most people, when I told them I was training as a teacher. The overwhelming response was “you’re brave, I couldn’t do that”

I’m currently sat in an indoor sports venue for my kids activity. Apart from the staff I’m the only adult with a mask on. We are in an area where the delta variant is rife. Hmm

So Chris Whitty has just said it’s a good thing that the school holidays are round the corner. What’s this? Is he saying that Covid spreads more rapidly in classrooms?!!!

Son’s bubble just gone down. He’s just having his PCR (his LFT was negative). This will be interesting. First case ever in his new school - he only started today! Can’t believe it. Council asking all adults to get PCRs in my town. Numbers going up at an alarming way!

At least you can blame Boris now though, rather than being slated by parents/students for being party-poopers.

I've given up on expecting anyone in authority to ever acknowledge the pits of infection that schools are. There won't be one single commentator anywhere who picks up on that remark about July 19th being useful for coinciding with school holidays.

Nope! It really is the elephant in the room.

Same with us. I feel bad for the y11's but also selfishly glad I don't have to squeeze into a dress.Blush

It was nearly discussed by an expert on R4 this morning, but they 'lost the connection'. Given all the data suppression going on, I would not be surprised if someone at the BBC pressed a kill button.

Right - I'm watching the bbc news on a slight delay and their medical editor Fergus Walsh has referenced the school holidays by just saying that "there will be less mixing indoors."

I think that's about the most we can ever expect.

Beth R on sky said it coincided with the school holidays which would help. So again thats all we are getting.
