Struggling and worrying about jobs

I've just found nothing I feel drawn to. As it's getting later in the term should I really just take what I can now and stop being fussy.

Also should I ask to visit first before applying? Help??

I think I may have replied to your other thread but possibly not so apologies if I am repeating myself!

Visits prior to interview may be tricky at the moment due to covid. It's generally not expected in secondary anyway- I can't remember if you are primary or secondary?

I would say, be open minded and cast your net wide. The 'perfect' school may not have a vacancy at the moment. Sometimes, a school that seems perfect may turn out not to be. Equally, one that you accept a job at that may not seem perfect may turn out really well.

I did my NQT year in a 6th form college. When I got the job, I thought it would be perfect. It was fine and I worked there for 5 years but it wasn't as perfect as I imagined it to be.

I moved to my current school for an Easter start and spent the first term wondering if I had made a terrible mistake. The department had staffing issues and things had been unstable for a while. I thought I would give it a year and then maybe move on.

Five years and two promotions later, I couldn't be happier Smile After two terms, something clicked and I was keen to be part of the team driving improvement. I couldn't imagine working anywhere else now.

Sometimes you 'grow' into a school. Worst case if you start somewhere and don't like it, you can find something else.

I am an NQT looking for SEN posts, ideally primary but would happily teach KS3/4/5. Because this is a relatively small sector I am applying for anything that comes up within a reasonable distance (I have small children of my own).

If I don't get an NQT position, I am going to do SEN supply, happy to do teaching or TA, to get into schools and get to know some. Having a plan B means I feel much calmer about the job market. Hope you see something soon, most jobs will be advertised after Whit I think.
