Only female in dept being the note taker

This is AIBU really but I'd rather not have loads of people jump on the thread.

Only female in a department of 6. 2 are not qualified in our subject area. I was a second in department for years before dropping down to 3 days when I had DD2 (just establishing that I'm not the newest etc)

Every department meeting I am told to take notes either written (that need submitting to SLT) or type the notes. This is because I "have the neatest writing" and "type the quickest". I have said "I hope this isn't because I'm the only woman".

AIBU to refuse next time? Am I taking this the wrong way to be annoyed? I'd like to be a listened to & valued member of department, not the note taker.

I'd be suggesting that everyone takes a turn. Otherwise you are constantly adding to your own work load. I'd take it the same way as you if it was always me tbh and I actually like taking notes and writing up minutes.

Agree it is only fair to take turns, particularly as it adds to workload. How can they argue with that? (Although I know some woukd try to!)

I’m often the designated note taker but that’s because I enjoy it and volunteer to do so.

I agree that you should be taking turns if no one wants to take notes regularly.

If you don't want to do it every time, insist on a rota.
'Your turn today, X', then just laugh if they try to pass it back to you. They are surely not insisting the woman always has to be the secretary for the group?

That’s ridiculous! It’s 2020, insist on a rota.

Fuck that. Draw up a dated rota less the days you've already done and give it to them. Cheeky sods.

Always take the notes that way you decide what is recorded for posterity.

Thanks. I'll be telling them it's someone else's turn next time.
