You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Wow-another thread already!

Shattered after a day of INSET and still don’t really feel like anyone knows what’s going on.

Kids in tomorrow-am pleased to see them, but feel like I’m on edge just waiting for someone to ring in with a positive test at one of the 4 schools I/we are in.

Checking in.

We have lots of information about new Covid measures, but we're doing actual lessons tomorrow and...

Classes are not on Satchel One (so can't set HW)
Classes are not on Go4School (so no PP data)
No duty rota
Still no idea what's happening with TAs
No blanket policy on what to implement instead of detentions, we used to do VW530 (verbal warning, written warning, 5 min stay back, 30 minute after school) I'm thinking VWEP (verbal, written, email home, phone call home) but that might just make too much extra work for me, maybe I'll just give them multiple written warnings for the same thing but then it will mess up the report system?

I'm hoping the shock of coming back makes them behave until someone decides for me Wink

On a positive note, I smashed my Apple Watch rings today by being good and following the one way system. It's a looong was to the printer and the toilet now.

Checking in.

Unintended consequences of noone having their own classrooms anymore means instead we are stuffed into tiny makeshift workrooms together. When they say that staff to staff transmission is the main risk, I'm not sure this is such a good idea. Ah well, too late now .

One question - is there anything in the official guidance about which symptoms we are supposed to isolate on? Is it just the main 3?

Report
monkeytennis97 · 02/09/2020 21:48

Yeah I was wondering about that too. Do we just stay home if we have three main symptoms?

I have eye of newt and toe of frog, but I've no idea who is in any of my classes. Except the random who has appeared in my year 13 class - and no one seems to know where from.

Q: I've ended up being sick. Think its something I've eaten do I need to take a covid test?

Report
MrsHerculePoirot · 02/09/2020 21:50

@WhyNotMe40 exactly that for us too. No-one has a clue where to work when non-contact periods. I usually work in my room - assuming I’ll get fuck all done tbh as by the time I locate a room and wipe it down and log on it will be time to log off again and get to next lesson 🙄 at least we can leave sharpish each day and work at home. SLT also discussing letting staff leave early/come in late if not teaching but need to ensure cover is covered...

As far as I know, and then just until a negative test, then you can go back if you 'feel well'.

I'm going to wear my mask if I'm outside my 'safe zone'. It just feels like the right thing to do personally (especially since I'm still a bit snotty/asthmatic coughy).

We've been told main 3 get a test.
But then also 'anything when you know you don't feel right' get a test.

Massive sore throat from saying the same name repeatedly (aaaah, 'Bob' is going to do my head in), and knackered too. It's day two. Haha!

My significant behaviour person was an angel today. I expect explosions tomorrow.

No need for a test.

I'm often sick if I'm really anxious. I personally discount one vom as 'not a thing', but if you still feel nauseated, or are generally never sick, or are sick again don't you need to follow the 48 hour rule anyway?

Still no clue about our behaviour stuff either 🤷‍♀️

Loads of things still to get sorted but it'll be ok......

Strange to hear our HT today, who is normally hot on attendance and carrying on if you can, telling us in no uncertain terms to make sure we do not attend if we have any of the main 3 symptoms.

Any knock on effects on anyone's health from being back already? I have trigeminal neuralgia and all through the lockdown and holiday I was ticking along nicely on one of my tablets a day keeping the pain at bay. Clearly, my TN is stress related and although I don't feel that stressed (AWOL partner teacher notwithstanding), it's kicking off big time giving me pain in my cheek (icy cold), jaw and teeth - OUCH!

I think another early night is in order. Tomorrow we have more planning and prep days as Wales is allowed more time before we accept the kids and the consortium chose to have 2 extra days. I'm in charge of one of the school improvement areas this year (yay me) and have been planning my INSET presentation for tomorrow this evening.

Speaking of Wales, Kirsty Williams still hasn't committed to allowing keyworker children into school if using childcare means mixing bubbles. If there's a local lockdown I could still find my kids excluded from school because I have to go to work.

To end my day on a positive - I have a year 4 child in my class who I had last year, let's call him Arjun. Arjun is from a multi generational household with ill parents, is very autistic, only just verbal and is waiting for a special school place. His mum took him out of school early in March because he kept licking the bus. I love him, I chose to have him again even though he is challenging in class.

He arrived this morning for the first time in a taxi on his own. He worked out walking around from where the taxi dropped him (this was an issue, but let's brush over that one for now Hmm ), came to the specified gate for my class, wore a mask the whole time, then came in and had an amazing day. He totally hugged me a gazillion times, and held my hand all through breaktime, SD with people he knows not being a feature of his life, but he wore a mask, waited in a SD queue outside with other parents all on his own, and had fun. He only bounced off my whiteboard about 5 times, which is a win. I totally loved seeing him. Nearly cried on the phone to his mum explaining how he'd done so well on his own.

I'm on my way to bed now. Having had year 7 all day today I now don't teach anything until Friday afternoon. Next week will be a proper shock to the system when I have to teach 22 lessons in a week rather than the 6 I'm doing this week (and tbh today I didn't teach anything, I basically talked about rules and organisation for 5 hours, and learnt a few names).
