You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Oh my word I thought the 15th republic would cover A Level and GCSE but clearly not. I don’t think I want to go in on Thursday.

Since when does Kier Starmer think all schools are perfectly safe? What he considers perfect and what I consider perfect are clearly different things.

I was a bit shocked reading Starmer say that. I thought he was supposed to be intelligent?

My local chemist is about three times as large as my classroom. One person allowed in at a time, wearing a mask with the assustent wearing a mask and visor and behind a perspex screen...

Keir Starmer thinks schools are perfectly safe - Daily Fail article which I won’t link to. Who do I vote for in the future now?

Exactly! Why the hell does nobody in politics seem to care about the safety of the school staff?

Do you think when schools start closing due to outbreaks politicians will say they are safe because we are closing them to stop the spread of the virus, and that is part of their guidelines to make them safe?

To Secondary school teachers (because yours are more likely to be allowed phones in school) ... can you see the kids in your school being cross with the photos in the media of 6 children to a class being circulated? I wonder if they will be taking photos of the rammed corridors like that girl in Georgia and putting them on Instagram?!

My teen DC are furious!

MrsHamlet · 16/08/2020 11:30

Phones definitely not allowed in my school - but yes. It's a bare faced lie and they don't like being lied to.

I can see all of the pupils at my school making tik toks in the class as they wait for their next teacher to come across for the other side of the school.

@RigaBalsam your school hasn't invested in time travel or teleportation then? If only that had a more get up and go attitude...

Well, I hate to say it, but I hope some kids do take photos and they are widely publicised as a stark contrast to what the BBC and the DF show schools look like.

If my school looks like that - and I think it might - I will be taking photos myself.

Not yet but I can see my first comment to any class being
' phones away'

Appu I agree.

The thing is that Starmer has proved himself to be a vote hungry politician like the rest of them.

I don't understand - what is he supposed to have said?

Based upon what I read, I took it to mean that he's telling Boris and the Government ministers to pull their finger out and get it sorted, not that there shouldn't be any changes to make it safer.

I saw piggy’s favourite Tory teacher retweet an Us4Them poster so I clicked through to find retweets such as

“People throw around ‘anti-masker’ like it’s something to be ashamed of

I am anti absolutely everything that infringes on our freedom

Loud and proud”

Don’t ever be fooled into thinking it’s the children’s interests they have at heart,

@noblegiraffe

Those attitudes must have become such an integrated part of how they view themselves for them to protect that viewpoint so aggressively. Maybe it is that they genuinely cannot afford to question it because to do so would mean they had to question so many other aspects of who they are and what they believe.

The psychology of this is absolutely fascinating.

I haven’t seen him mention safety at all. I might be wrong though. He just sounds like he wants to disassociate himself with the unions.

@Appuskidu

I didn't take it to mean that. I thought that the message was basically telling the Government to sort it out and deal with any barriers, such as teachers/unions not being totally onboard with things as they are. Doing so would mean that all schools would go back in September as their problems would have been addressed and solutions found.

Fair enough-I haven’t seen anything mentioned about safety but happy to be corrected if he has.

Disagree with Keri Starmer’s position but he’s still 10 times better than Boris Johnson.
