How much are you paid as a TA?

Quick question - how much are you paid as a secondary TA for how many hours and do you ever keep to them?

It probably isn’t that different from primary to secondary tbh.

My friend left teaching to be a TA as teaching was destroying her mental health-I think the salary looked ok on paper, but when it was pro rated down for term time only and schools hours only, she was working ‘full time’ school hours and only taking home about £600 odd a month.

She did this for a year and is now working in an office on much better money!

I'm primary, I get £900 a month
My sister is secondary and gets £1200 a month

Both do 32 hours a week

I'm always in early, I have never yet got my full lunch break, occasionally don't get a break at all, I think I've left on time maybe 3 times in the 5 years I've been at my current school and at times take laminating and stuff home to do. Sister often misses part of her lunch but as her lunch break is an hour as opposed to my 30 minutes she doesn't ever miss the whole break, she gets in a bit early but generally leaves roughly on time and I've never known her bring work home. She goes on trips that are often massively long days and residentials but she gets loads of notice for those and I think she volunteers for them (I go on trips but it's rare mine are any longer than a normal school day)

I left my part time teaching job after 17 years in January because the workload made me suicidal. I now work as a 1:1 SEN T.A and although I have taken a pay cut (I work 5 days a week, 8:30-3:30 with half an hour for lunch) I bring home £1,250 per month and I no longer day dream about driving my car into a brick wall!

I work 25 hours a week , no paid breaks and earn £960 per month.

I work 25 hours TA (primary) including lunchtime supervisor and take home £1005.

I was a secondary TA 4 years ago. My oh still is.

I got 23k as a level 3 and my oh currently gets 26k as a HLTA.

The level 1 basic is about 15-16k but mainly our TAs are level 2 with a 21k wage.

Been a secondary TA for 4 years now. 32hrs a week and I get £1008 a month after deductions. I work 15minutes extra a week running a club which I take as TOIL on one of the training days. I don't bring any work home.

26K for HLTA? After how many years out of interest? in London? private or state?

HLTA – BEHAVIOUR TEAM - £23,293 to £26,319
TEACHING ASSISTANT -Level 1 - £15,322 to £15,950

So about 4 years to get to the top.

HLTAs aren’t always paid that well though.

The HLTA at my school gets paid a pound extra per hour on top of her TA rate for every hour she is being an HLTA for-it is seriously crap money, but the job is convenient and she doesn’t want to move. She certainly doesn’t get anywhere near £23k.

TA3 - After tax, NI, Pension etc my take home pay is approx £1300 a month. I work 36.25 hours a week. Full time equivalent salary if i worked all year round would be £23K. I work in Manchester in a primary school.

I think those HLTA scales are good.

I feel underpaid as a teacher now, I work 3 days a week and take home 1100 a month.

I was a secondary SEN LSA for many years until 2 years ago. I got £8.18 an hour to support in lessons, produce differentiated work, plan and deliver interventions, attend meetings with external people, attend annual reviews and much much more. I loved the students but in the end I’d just had enough of being massively underpaid for what I did.

TAs in my primary are on 11.10 per hour once at the top of their pay scale. This is increased a bit to cover holiday pay (there is a formula but I don’t have it to hand). There is quite a variation in hours contracted to suit the needs of the school so it isn’t possible to state a salary.

But that is £29k actual vs HLTA which will be FTE, won't it?

Starting a new secondary TA post in September, 32.8 hours a week. The annual pro-Rata salary is £14015 for level?5.
I usually do supply teaching, but I don’t think there’ll be much about next term, plus I don’t fancy going into lots of random school with Covid still around

I am starting a new post in September, £13,600 for 30.5hrs, grade 4.

I'm primary - £9.55 per hour for 25 hours per week term time only. Works out to about £860 take home.

SEN School 3 days a week I take home £970 after pension and tax deductions. 8.30-4.15 with 30 minutes lunch. Hard work in school but no extra hours or stress.
