You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Gosh - the debates rage on. I know some of us are already on the summer break and the rest of us are on a rolling countdown to the end.

I just need to complete my form reports!

Give anything for a nice pop up cocktail bar right now.

Watching Glastonbury and crying about not being able to do anything fun ever, just recording fucking lessons and writing reports about children I can't remember.

Only 5 to go, but they are the ones I need to be careful about - children who really need EHCPs, so all this will be taken into evidence etc.

I'm on the winter hols now for a fortnight. Stunningly beautiful weather, day after day of clear blue skies, though parky at night. Too much schoolwork still to do after an eleven-week term of online teaching.

I got namechecked on a thread . And not in a good way Apparently I keep turning up on education-based threads.Shock

It's so tempting to list all the online and hard copy marking I've done, all the live lessons, but they can go and fuck themselves. I'd rather poke my eyes out than justify myself to those whingeing dropkicks.

And breathe.

Popped up on my news feed that PM has told Mail pm Sunday school compulsory from September...certainly makes it more likely all SD and bubble plans to be torn up

Hinnive rejoined after flouncing due to the teacher bashing because in a real predicament with my own children's schooling. I've started a thread on the Coronavirus board if anyone dares venture out for a look. Essentially, some school in Wales are discriminating against the children of key workers by not allowing them to access teaching if they also need childcare (or even go to school unless their parents are school staff). Please let me know if you're in the same boat - I don't know what the hell to do; the school doesn't want to know.

Great start. That was supposed to be 'Hi, I've returned ...' (I'm not sleeping Sad)

@echt, I've also been name-checked on the same thread (and accused of something I haven't done) Thanks for sticking up for me.

Hi, I'm still here and mostly lurking as usual.

After you posted the sage advice about keeping teachers apart and especially teachers and children from different schools, I have baggsied the house and allocated dh the garage and ds the tent. Hmm

Hanging on in there with 3 weeks to go. Reports are done. Phew!

Now just have to have follow up conversations with all the families most of whom seem to have given up on any sort of home learning as far as I can make out.

@salty that sounds like a nightmare. Good luck k with sorting that out.

I just read that article about school being compulsory and that trust starting two weeks early. Just as I booked to take the kids away for a few days in that week! Stop moving the bloody goalposts!

I have been doing a metaanalsyis of threads:

I want my DCs to do work all summer
I don't want my DCs to have summer work
Pretend it's the holidays now; teachers are just slave drivers
I don't want my DCs to have markings to correct or any feedback
My DC's work is not marked , even when it is
Of course I have spoken to the school : they didn't reply
The school keeps phoning us, invading our privacy
My school has done NOTHING, NOTHING I tell you
My school gives my DC too much work
Zoom is the only online meeting platform ever
All schools were given MS Teams for free
Won't anyone think of the pooooor?
All children have laptops, wi -fi and lots of tech
I can't WFH with my DCs around
Teachers should be able to WFH and provide live lessons with their DCs around
Too much screen time
Not enough lessons on screens
Not being at school is ruining my DC's mental health and they never see their friends
My DCs were out with all their friends having a party in the park last night so why aren't schools back?
Schools aren't back because of a lack of can do
Kids can't get or spread coronavirus
Teachers should wear masks and visors at all times.
Why do teachers want masks? Stop this doom mongering
We pay your salary and you get 53 weeks holiday
Private schools have all their children back
State schools just don't want children back because gin and gardens
Private schools don't have all their children back because they are so much better
Unions are the devil
Have you contacted your union?

I was fizzing about the Sage advice last night. How dare they single teachers out for less social movement than any other worker Angry
No other section of workers has been advised to do that, have they?

ohthegoats · 28/06/2020 09:22

Hang on, i've missed something. Are they now saying that teachers should only go to work and do bubbles there, but not socially?

@piggy, Yup. Perfect summary.

I think it was all public facing staff saucer. In the article I read it specifically mentioned frontline NHS, shop workers and, I think , transport workers.

Because public servants live to work, you know.

I said this months ago : that a utilitarian world where everyone goes off to work or school but is allowed no social life is a bigger MH risk than total lockdown. More especially if only certain people are expected to adhere .

It's also completely unworkable as a solution.

Hang on, i've missed something. Are they now saying that teachers should only go to work and do bubbles there, but not socially?

I read it briefly (gin and wine had been consumed) and I got the impression that we have to limit our social interactions so that we don't infect the kids in school.
If I'm correct, they can fuck right off with that one.

The ST is almost completely silent on schools this week : looks like Gavin really doesn't have a plan!

Re an AT getting kids back 2 weeks early: this sort of thing annoys me. Schools should try to all work together, otherwise parents and employers can't see why every school doesn't do what the MATs do. It's just macho posturing by MAT execs. When I started teaching in 1923 schools were neighbourhood schools but very much worked together with other schools on plans, term dates, admissions etc . Those were the days.

Meanwhile Johnson is saying everyone will be back In September 'because it's the law'. Ermmm.. OK.

Ah right, Piggy. I admit I may have gone off on one without reading the whole advice Grin

But who the hell do they think are going to get in the newly opened businesses and boost the economy then? That’s a massive chunk of society with spending power. As you say, completely unworkable.

I wouldn’t go in a pub, or a shopping centre etc but I would sit in the garden of a teacher friend/family as I have been doing. 3m apart, with own refreshments etc. I will not, under any circumstances, spend an entire day in one classroom and go for a wee on a strict timetable. So Sage can do one, frankly.

Grin great summary Piggy.

Great news that we can all go to work and pretend the virus doesn’t exist there but on stepping out of the school building be extra cautious of the virus and return home immediately Hmm

Teachers will just leave. I will if it all gets ridiculous. I realise I'm privileged in being able to do that.
