You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

Still thinking of our front line troops and wondering how their first day in school has been.

I'm going for 'a weird mix of relief at 'normality', and aaagh'. That's how I felt the first day I went in on the rota!

I’ll just put my platter of sandwiches for the primary colleague solidarity Jacobs join here, ok?

I’m back in next week - our LEA went down the hub model for secondary but now, in preparation for Y10 going back everyone is back to their own schools. For lots of reasons that I can’t explain because it’s far too outing, our school opening for key workers is an absolute joke. But I appreciate you would all roll your eyes with me if you could!

Have people seen the reports of parents taking their children to school only to be turned away, either because they had got the date wrong, unclear whose fault it was (parent/school/LEA) or because the school said "it wasn't ready" ???

Daily Fail and Daily Mirror so at least politically balanced!

Thanks for starting a new thread. My first day went well. Handed in my DBS and P45 and um, went to Aldi. Don't tell any TBs. They will have us in all summer in revenge! Hope all went well in hubs and primaries.

I don’t have children in until later this week so today was just sorting stuff out.
Printing off colouring sheets saying ‘don’t hug your friends’ was nearly enough to tip me over the edge.

Stay away from the Daily Fail - not good for anyone

I can imagine some parents thinking right let’s get to school and see what happens.

Just waiting for threads to explode about how horrid it was.

I did get the ice in for the drinks though

Hi all. I'm not in until Wednesday, but am getting crosser and crosser as the days progress. The statistics!! WHAT THE HELL are the Government THINKING???????

Well, Day 1 is done. I am exhausted.

It went ok. I had 10 due to come into my bubble. 9 turned up, but 2 cried (tbf, the second was spooked by the first, which was a shame) and had to be turned away.

Credit to SMT, all routines in place worked very well.

It was just so incredibly joyless and inappropriate. Desks, desks, desks. Worksheets. HT doesn’t want anyone lingering unnecessarily to clean sticklebricks and we didn’t have enough plastic to share out anyway. So I was home remarkably early.

Nah, they’ll all be how great a day they all had, how happy they all were and how positivity stops a pandemic.

Anyone cleaned any toilets today?
This is a serious gripe of mine. Any visitor to my house for a BBQ has to virtually hose down my downstairs loo with industrial-strength disinfectant, but dozens of schoolchildren can use the same few loos all day.
But I am a teacher, NOT a toilet cleaner (sorry if that offends anyone).
Angry

I'm glad it was ok @MossWalk it's a shame it has to be so joyless and inappropriate though. Those poor kids that cried 😢 I think that's the right response to this, crying seems perfectly logical to me.

My day went better than I expected! I was nervous as I haven't been in so far (asthma so worked from home). Our head has said we will continue taking the children's temperatures when they arrive and we can wear masks/gloves that have been provided.
We prepared our classrooms. Well, my classroom has been used to store all the unnecessary furniture so it's a mess!
None of my year 1 bubble are in until Thursday. Year 6 arrived today and some children who were meant to come in didn't show up, but some children showed up who hadn't signed up! They had to be collected by their parents.
In need of some Wine and Cake. Hope everyone has had a good day.

Today we only had key workers in but all staff. Ran out of useful jobs after an hour so ended up killing time all day as wasnt allowed to leave early.

Worried about tomorrow and hope rest of week isnt like this.

Today has been a day of zoom meetings, tech problems and neglecting my own child. Tomorrow more zoom meetings and then back in to children.

6 weeks and 4 days until the summer holiday.

I don't like my job any more. Just want a nice, full normal classroom.

Hi all,
I was in today - no kids, because we needed to have a whole staff meeting, but KW children in tomorrow. Mine is a KW bubble but the amount of KW children has doubled since Friday. We have already said that we don't have room for Yr 6 and there are serious concerns that we may not even have room for Yr 1.

Report
namechangedyetagain · 01/06/2020 18:08

Checking in, nothing sensible to say as already partaken in wine. Spent the day rearranging rooms, and I'm now in KW bubble as a 1 to 1. Child has a tendency to kick, hit and spit. Yay.
