Extremely anxious about school tomorrow

I’m back in the classroom with my nursery class after being at home since schools shut. I’m not nervous about the teaching or kids, but I’m incredibly anxious about leaving the bubble of lockdown and how different everything will be. Urgh.
Anyone else back and scared?!

Yes. I was in looking after key workers children but tomorrow morning every member off staff is back in full time and we also have Foundation, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 starting back in school. I feel sick at the thought. I trust the head teacher but I do not trust our local authority and I certainly do not trust the government. To complicate matters I am with a year group I don't normally teach and haven't done for years.

I don’t feel prepared even though I am.

I haven't felt this unprepared since my PGCE, I have no idea what to expect and I feel sick at the thought as I hate hate hate being unprepared at all let alone like this.

Yes I feel the same. I meant that I was as prepared as I could be, but there’s a strong feeling of overwhelm at walking into the complete unknown.

Which year do you teach? I’m planning on a few days of just playing with nursery and I’ll take it from there.

Normally Year 4 but I've been allocated to Reception. Help! Grin or Confused

PenorPencil we're discussing secondary school at the moment (I'm a secondary governor) and what we can do for the new year 7s in September. We've got a Zoom meeting coming up to talk about it with SLT, a union rep and teachers.

I'm also back tomorrow, not nervous yet as I will be with my own class and so far only sensible children are on the 'coming in' list and it will only be three children. I'm just amazed and appalled that the school and the Govt are going ahead with this.

good luck thatone. I've got 10 children, none of whom I know.

I'm in with Year 6 tomorrow - 1 week out of three. Wasn't on the key worker rota due to my asthma. I'm feeling very unprepared - not in my school and only 4 of the 9 are my children. I'm taking it as it comes tomorrow.

Thank you gingerorange, hope all goes well for you too, and everyone else going back.

Me too. Sad I honestly think it's so they can tick it off their 'winning' list and tell everyone that they're doing a sterling job getting the country going again despite all the evidence to the contrary.

It benefits nobody. Not the children really who will have a very different school experience, not working parents who may have children in other years or need wrap-around care, not the children in other year groups who now won't get the online provision as their teacher is in school (this is in my school, I know others are different).

It is purely for the Gov to try & prove a point - 'look how well we're doing.' I have a horrible feeling it won't in a few weeks but the blame will be conveniently placed elsewhere...

I'm not back in full time until the 8th but best of luck to all of you in tomorrow. Thanks

I disagree. It absolutely benefits the children. Our pupils had a great day today and they were so pleased to be back. After some time spent on PSHE, the teachers were able to do some ‘normal lessons’. The kids weren’t phased by the tape, the changes and the social distancing as it’s their new normal. Children are resilient. Too often we reflect our anxiety onto them unnecessarily.

OP - hope you had a good day. I was anxious but was fine as soon as I saw the kids.

Yes, same here @Pud2 - as soon as I was in school all the anxiety was gone. I had a decent day with my little darlings and I think they were happy too.

Update a week in... I’ve had a lovely week! Kids have been fab and in my little nursery bubble things haven’t felt that different. Hope everyone else has been ok. 😊

It all went pretty well. The children understood and complied brilliantly with the rules but I was lucky that I got sensible ones. Had to have loads of back up and extension work and took them outside every now and then for games. We have a nice outdoor area with tables and chairs.

But it wasn't always easy to keep a distance particularly while they were working. We kept all the windows and doors open so had some wind blasting through, am praying that that would have helped to clear out the virus if there was any, now have a nervous wait to see....
