It was announced today that our college is to open on the 1st June for Y10 & Y12. Anyone else's secondary school opening? Confused

Ours has a plan in place but there is a big IF hanging over it at the moment. Looking at other schools locally they are planning on only 1 day for yr10/12 before the end of te summer term.

Yes. And I don't know what to reply re my availability

Full timetable I believe.

I don't know what to say either. Union advice is 'not to engage'. It seems a bit early and possibly unsafe? We are still in lockdown ffs! We are told not to see our family and friends, not to go on holiday etc but yet we are to mix with 100s of students?

My YR DS would be going back on the 1st but yet my Y3 DD can't? I'm so confused ShockConfusedSad

It’s so strange isn’t it. No family or friends but a f tonne of children coughing all over us.
Are they trying to kill us?

No full timetable. Head says part time, part year groups. Gradual, focus on the kids who need us most, first.

I'm so grateful to have such a sensible, caring headteacher.

Our head has said she doesn’t see anything changing in the foreseeable future until she can be assured about pupil and student safety.

We've been given a new timetable. We'll have 14 max per classroom for 2 hours at a time 😱. Hooks will be provided to open doors. Cleaning supplies have been ordered. Jesus Christ

We will open (maybe) for two weeks on a struck invite-only basis for Year 10 and Year 12 starting 22 June. Not all staff will be in at the same time

No plans as of yet but not all and not all the time and not proper lessons. Awaiting further guidance why plan and then have to plan again!

I feel like I'm in some insane parallel universe and can't get back to the real world. It's just crazy.

@singlemum81 are you teaching a full day still? 5 days a week?

I don’t think we are going to get to this stage because honestly, I cannot see how schools will open on June 1st.

Our head emailed today and said we will be doing what the local schools are doing and following our city advice. I have no idea what this is yet?!

singlemum81 · 13/05/2020 21:22

Looks like I'll be in 4 days. I'll have to send my DD to school for 'childcare'. Feeling ill about the whole thing tbh. Head is lovely, has said we are only to come in if we feel safe to do so. Have sent him an email. Not sure what to do

Oh @singlemum81 that’s awful. I do hope that this gets resolved. There are too many unanswered questions.

Ultimately I want to go in and teach/see my students but it has to be safe and quite clearly this guidance isn’t.

I’m sure your head will get it resolved. Flowers

Are you afraid to take him at his word and ask to work from home/say you don’t feel safe? He may be trying to gage staff feelings.

I've already expressed my worries. I can't be the only one. My children's health and safety is paramount to me, although, I would feel awful if someone had to cover my lessons

What? His does this work... ? Isn't it against Gov plan / guidance.... the Y1 Y6 Rec first, then rest of primary then an ambition to give Y10 and 12 some face to face time with teachers? How has that morphed into... we are opening on June 1st for Y10 and 12?

Report
ReceptionTA · 13/05/2020 23:20

Are schools allowed to open for Y10? Confused Or are you at an independent school?

I actually think it's as safe as it ever will be to open a school to more children. How safe it remains only time will tell!

Report
singlemum81 · 14/05/2020 07:40

Not independent! It seems a bit early but what do I know! I thought it was only YR, Y1 & Y6 too Hmm

I thought it wasn't until 1st July that y10/12 would get 'some time' with teachers. I feel for you, I wouldn't want to go back yet.

The guidance suggests year 10/12 from 1st June.

Boris gave the impression it was later in his speech.

Chaos..

OP, get in touch with your union and follow their advice. It’s the only way.

Report
wembollian · 14/05/2020 08:16

In the Sunday briefing, I really thought it suggested it was from the 1st July. However, the 60 page document was more vague and seems to have morphed into 1st June.

We are having all Year 10 back on the 1st or June too
