You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

We started here being kicked about on AIBU

And then journeyed on in spite of the bashing and the misplaced apostrophe

Dh's birthday vouchers have been burning a hole in his account, so he has ordered paraphernalia to make espresso martinis. Arrived today and wondering if I can persuade him to try it out.

Thank you! Am enjoying these threads even though I don’t post so much. Felt very worried about all the talk about schools going back yesterday and today. I know I can’t do anything about it, but just stressing me today! Suspect I’ll get over it again soon...

I'm here. I don't bring any alcohol, but I'm happy to share my Dr Pepper. And best of all, dd2 helped me make a delicious chocolate cheesecake, so you may all have a small, don't really want to share slice.

Hi all. Generally cheesed off tonight.
Firstly it's my wedding Anniversary and I had the result from my Covid test and it's come back...... Drum roll please.......NOT CLEAR. Who even knew that was a thing!!!

Now not only am stuck at WFH (teachers can't work from home. It just doesn't work) but now can't even go for a walk. My poor DH and DD will be stuck at home for 14 days for no reason

NOT CLEAR - oh, that's very helpful!

Well today is the day when for some reason about half a dozen missing-presumed-asleep students who I've heard not a peep from since March 20th suddenly emerged from their comas, wrote apologetic emails and sent me work. Which was great. Except to a teen they've ATTACHED IT TO THEIR EMAIL instead of uploading it on to Teams which means I have to be all "it's good to hear from you blahblah, would you mind ever so awfully being the sweetest dear and following fucking instructions for once in your life?". Grr.

Finding technology a bit overwhelming today. I really wish I understood it all better.
New day tomorrow though! Onward and upward.

Evening all. I bring cheese and biscuits. I know what you mean about technology. I had to get the tech team to take charge of my laptop remotely today!

That's annoying gravity.
We just do email, no teams, and we do have Moodle but a lot of my kids can't really navigate it (apparently). I have at least 3 who can't even write an email. They type their whole message into the subject, and leave the body of the email blank! It's a good job their messages are short, mostly "which sheet should I do? I can't see it" and I have to email back "open the attachment, it's on the email I sent this morning and it's on this one as well". Then a few hours later I get a reply "I don't know how to send a photo of my work", again typed into the subject of the email rather than the main body. I'm rapidly losing my patience with this, but am very ultra professional in my responses to them. It does make me wonder how much effort they are putting in to communicating with other teachers as we all expect it via email.

And I have some super keen kids as well. I sent my first instruction email this morning at 7am, by 7:30 I had my first reply, with a photo of all the work I had set, so they were definitely up and doing maths at 7am. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

Ha MsAwesome - we are only doing emails as well, and my KS3 students also seem only able to type the whole message into the subject, leaving the header blank.
I was a bit wtf at first, but now I've got used to it!
It was these students who apparently had not been seeing all the helpful summary sheets I had been sending that would help them complete their work. They had obviously complained to their parents that the work was too hard, who then complained to my line manager. Student and parent completely sidestepping me. Well no wonder it was hard if they had no idea my help sheet existed Hmm

Drink. It's alcohol tonight.....

No drink but I bring crumble and custard.

I thought I'd try teams with my year 12 group as they're , you know, almost grown up. Sent them a lovely little loom video instructing them on how to up load their work to teams ( drama teacher so they've been working on monologues and meant to have recorded them etc) this was last Monday. Still no evidence from any of them. 🤦‍♀️

It's Wednesday morning here in Melbourne and a very busy day ahead with three live double lessons, all using Teams.

Teams is working well, especially now I've worked out how to share the screen so I can teach film.

Report
MsAwesomeDragon · 04/05/2020 21:53

Why not that sounds about right. I also had one who had no idea why he was getting letters saying he hasn't been doing any work, he's been working very hard. His parents then asked to see the instruction sheet from school. Turns out he'd been given log in details for several websites and he was just using those, without having read the instruction to CHECK YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL EVERY DAY. So for 3 weeks he had no clue that he was getting 5 emails a day with specific instructions for the work to do that day. I got a very apologetic email from his parents once they realised that lol

Report
echt · 04/05/2020 21:58

Mine do that but are getting better at the drill: check the lesson plan for the day which is on a central platform used by all the school and it's where all lesson plans, learning tasks, class rolls and resources are held, check emails every day, check Teams.
