Hello, is there any DT teachers twiddling their thumbs that would be able to offer my son last minute tips on his course work, we would be very grateful

Why is he needing to do it? What year group is he?

Yr11 it’s what teachers are now using to give him a grade. Also he still wants to finish it the best he can to prepare for A-level.

I can't help, I'm afraid (not a DT teacher), but the unions issued a joint statement today which says, Until we know what arrangements will be made by Ofqual, in consultation with us, about the awarding of grades for public exams, teachers should not be setting exam-related work for year 11 and 13 students, grading and marking it, collating ‘portfolios’, and/or doing predicted grades.

I understand him wanting to do well and keep going if he's taking it at A level, but his teachers shouldn't be using it to give a grade. I appreciate this isn't helpful!

Why shouldn't DT teachers be using NEA to give a grade?

Pupils have put a lot of work in to this and if possible it should be used to evidence grades.

Sorry just read. I assume the union have said this because as yet there is no clarification on how grades will be awarded and therefore insisting teachers mark and grade work which may be unfinished for many and may be dismissed by Ofqual is pointless.

Hopefully we will have full guidance in the next couple of days.
