Are you on a rota to childminder key workers’ children, in full time or teaching from home?

We are all in from Monday-seem to have a lot of key workers at our school!

I'm hoping I'm in my own group full time, probably staffed by a revolving rota of staff from other schools but we'll manage. My gang are highly vulnerable and I want to stay with them for continuity if possible.

We have to go in, but we only have around 15 students in the whole school attending (secondary.)

Somehow I don’t think the ‘vulnerable’ families will be thrilled at being labelled as such!

Just converted the dining room into an office so I have a dedicated work space. We are already closed (I'm in the Middle East) - it's a blanket closedown, no schools open to offer childcare. The switch to online learning has been a rapid learning curve- I have worked 3 X 12 hour days this week making sure everything was ready and is getting sent out.
There's a possibility of a full 'lockdown' next week so yesterday I made sure I brought all the resources (picture books, phonics readers) home for the next month or two. Next week I will be scanning stuff, uploading, answering questions and trying to get to grips with these newfangled online learning platforms....

Still really confused here. DC school sent a very strong email yesterday, giving a short list of key workers and stating only DC with 2 key workers parents would be allowed the care. Teachers were not on their list...
Very clearly they have got it wrong. I had assumed earlier in the day that they’d been given guidance my school had not yet received.
My family is currently in self isolation anyway, due to DS being unwell, so I’m even more in the dark.

Everyone will have a lot of key workers at their school - the list is huge and the categories are pretty sweeping. At my school, we are ALL in Mon, Tue, Wed. After that I have no idea. There’s talk about schools ‘pooling’ the children so that they only have to use one kitchen.

We’ve been told we’re all expected in as usual on Monday but I guess that could well change today. I can’t see 100s of our pupils rocking up on Monday morning.

This is from the head teachers’ union:

“Our understanding is that the highest priority will be for families where both parents are keyworkers or where a sole parent is a key worker, but there may be a degree of flexibility around this to help schools manage individual circumstances.”

“There may be some flexibility around this definition so that schools can identify pupils they know to be most vulnerable and offer a place, even if they do not meet the above criteria.”


“Schools can use that information to offer places based on their capacity. This may mean schools have to prioritise according to need. We are seeking guidance from the government on the order of priority should that be the case.

“Doing this will allow schools to identify how many pupils might want to access the provision next week. This will vary enormously from school to school, but without a clear picture, it is impossible to plan for.
Schools will need to take account of both: a) the latest government scientific advice on the proportion of pupils that it is advisable to maintain direct support for in order to maintain efforts to delay the spread of the virus. This has been set by the government as a maximum of 20% of the school population (NAHT has sought urgent advice in terms of what this means for special schools and has been assured that guidance will be published very shortly) ; and b) the number of staff available to work. This may require schools to prioritise which pupils receive an offer, according to greatest need.”

I think most schools are letting anyone in, mine certainly is although in practice hardly anyone has shown up.

We’ve all been told that we must not come to work next Monday. We’d already shut to students when the announcement happened though. We’re a secondary, so expect the number wanting keyworker childcare to be very small and we’ll work out how to staff it when we know numbers. I expect I’ll be on the SLT rota with a handful of other staff in at a time.

Full staff in my secondary too. We have a meeting today. I'll want to know how they're safeguarding staff.

I would've preferred being redeployed to local schools as I have to use public transport. At the very least, I'd like us to be on a rota.

Perhaps the secondaries will end up taking some primary children as childcare - our small rural primaries here might need that.

We are in whilst we have enough staff to maintain safe provision

Parents have already been deciding to keep pupils home though and we had about 30% attendance yesterday

Majority of the staff are in other than those in at risk groups -at the minute we are a pretty healthy bunch

My school have said all staff in on Monday. Theres talk of creating hub schools where kids from across the MAT come in... not sure how that helps with the aim of social distancing

I guess it might make sense if it means not all staff are in, should, but it is a PITA.

I don’t mind coming in, including over Easter, on a rota basis. I mind bitterly having to use precious petrol to commute to an empty school to create resources I could easily do at home.

We are closed. All our kitchen/ cleaning/ caretaking staff are self isolating so we can't open. Vulnerable and key worker kids are going to the local secondary for the time being. We are fully closed for a month and after that the HT said he'll reassess. Friends of mine who teach in other primaries are all expected to go in one day a week on a rota.

Working from home and have been asked to volunteer to be on a rota of staff for the kids coming in. I’ve got my mum’s funeral next week and a slight cold so am social distancing for a week and then going to stay with my recently widowed dad for a while. Have told work I’ll happily volunteer after easter. Speaking to my classes yesterday I think there will be very few kids in at my place, no one in year 9 upward I wouldn’t have thought. Lots of older ones will be at home with younger siblings.

A local MAT has mentioned not paying staff. Obviously nothing in writing. Any other MAT suggested similar?
Anyone know what our position is? I just assumed we would be paid.

Our SEN school will be open but running rolling class closures to deal with reduced staff and pupil numbers. We’re having one day a week to deep clean our classrooms.

I’m cross as it’s also looking like people with younger children who don’t want to take them to their own school as a key worker child, are saying they would prefer to work from home to keep their one children off, and let other people come in on the rota!

Working from home as I have been since Wednesday due to being in the vulnerable health group. My headteacher could not have been more supportive. Our school is open (primary and high school on same site). Not sure how many will be in.
