Just your opinion please, as I'm not sure what to think or if this is the norm. I work for a multi-academy trust.

All staff have been told that they have to go in to work everyday, regardless of the fact that we will have less than 30 students in total (normal numbers 1000 ish). We will apparently plan work for next year etc.

My DS's school won't keep him because both parents aren't key workers (just me), but my trust are willing to let him go to one of their primaries instead. I feel strange about sending him to an unfamiliar environment (he is in Year 1), but I appreciate that we are living in unprecedented times.

We have been told to continue to come into work unless you have children care issues, self isolating because I'll or vulnerable.

My DH works from home and always mostly has so that will continue. My school will be expecting me in in a rota system as I am not in one of the high risk categories
We are hoping that DH's employer will accept irregular hours from him so he can look after our own children while I work. So he will work 6-8.30 then 4-9. I will obviously have to be straight out the door of school, but as we will be just essentially babysitting, it might work

Yes, I think we were hoping for a rota system instead of in every day. My DH can't work from home, so he would be unpaid for the whole time.

I suppose we are lucky that the trust are allowing children to go to one of their primaries, otherwise we would have to take the unpaid option. I just feel worried that it will be unsettling for DS, but we can't afford to take the hit of no payment for DH for potentially several weeks.

Similar here, my DC's special school has closed; no other parent or anyone to look after DC, but school are saying staff need to be in!

I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. My school aren’t doing that. There is no need to be in school every day, you just need to be on a rota. It’s putting you at risk too. Will they heat the school for you? I bet you’ll be sitting there shivering.
This is just typical of our profession though isn’t it? We’re often not actually treated like professionals. They don’t trust you to work at home.

We haven’t heard from SLT yet, but I think if we don’t get a rota system I will be arguing vigorously that allowing everyone in will be unnecessarily placing staff at risk. Surely the model should be skeleton staffing only. In fact I am sure I have heard Boris or Gavin utter those exact words...

We’ve been told to continue going in if we can by slt but have agreed amongst my dept (science at a big school so lots of us) that we will cover each other when we need to look after small children

This will end up being a union issue. It’s clearly unnecessary and against the spirit of the closures to command all staff to be in every day. Also, I expect that we will be off until September, so it’s unsustainable. I’d develop a cough and self-isolate until Easter, by which time they may well have changed their tune.

Yes it’s ridiculous, my school has 2,500 pupils and we are on a rota system for approximately 60 we think from next week. It would be mental to get us all in! We have been told we can bring our own children with us too, I’m secondary and my children are primary but they can stay with me.

They really need to consider special schools as all children will potentially be in as they will all have EHCPs.
Special schools can’t run on a skeleton staff. They need everyone to be there to care for the children.
This includes medically vulnerable ones who, unless their parents decide to keep them at home can still come to school as the gov guidelines which state conditions that make people vulnerable to Covid only refer to adults.

There’s no social distance and work from home for us.

My school have said that SI only applies if you have symptoms or a member of your household does. So not if you hugged a friend who then developed symptoms the days after but isn’t being tested.....

They are going directly against government advice to work from home where possible.

So the union should sort this out for you.

I’m in an infant school and they’re saying all staff should be in for approx 50 pupils. We being made to ‘shifts’ on contact/non-contact across the school day. This seems absolutely terrible to me in terms of mixing together far more people than is necessary?! We’ve been told we can take our children in but I have a toddler so that’s not going to happen. I’m actually really scared - I feel like I’m putting myself and my own child at increased risk ☹️

We've been told we all have to be in school our usual working hours. We not allowed to be on the same room as other people, which is funny as we've all been crowding into the staff room for meetings everyday.

I have probably two weeks of things to be getting on with. After that I guess I'll think up some amazing project for myself.

A friend who is a teacher in a school nearby says she will have an almost full class on Monday morning.

A colleague with a toddler and no childcare has no idea what she's going to do, although we have been told we can bring children in with us. Teachers can work from home so I don't know why they're expected to go in.
