Primary or secondary?

I'm secondary and have been through a practice one with a consultant who is an inspector. I found it helpful and I broadly like the principle behind it; I'd rather be judged on the long-term planning and work we do on the curriculum than a snapshot of observations done on the day. If you've worked hard on your curriculum and your department are all on board that should come through. However, what the students and school in general are like is also important and will affect the impact side of things - well, that's my problem where I am anyway.

Primary is more problematic I think.

What time period did you have yours over?
I'm secondary.

We had a preliminary meeting on what to expect and then the day itself happened a few weeks later with just overnight notice.

I had to spend pretty much the whole day with the guy and the only thing I really objected to was he had drinks and I didn't - had to ask to go back to my department and get one!

The next day he sent through a long list of recommendations, some of which were minor, some were long-term and a couple were really out of my control. Nothing involved radically changing the direction we are already heading in.

What in particular are you worried about?

The length.
A week of book scrutiny, learning walks, longer observations and the stress that brings.

It won’t be outing to elaborate, it’s the new Ofsted Framework.

Some people give their experiences here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_staffroom/3693195-Anyone-had-Ofsted-yet
