Primary Core Subject leaders - tlr?

Just wondering how many of you get a tlr for leading a core subject? If so, in which subjects? Especially with the 'deep dive' ofsted inspections, it's quite a responsibility!

But you're right about deep dives - it's going to be fairly brutal Sad

Would love a TLR.
Or a pay rise.

Not primary myself. May I ask why anyone leads if they are not getting paid?

Physalia wow, that's a lot of extra work! Do you get extra release time? Are you UPS?

No TLRs at my school and teachers are leading on multiple subjects.

Teachers also have VERY limited subject leader release time to do their role. Maybe one half day in the year. One half day per term for English and Maths.

I get a TLR. Early Years Lead (150 children), PSED, Wrap-around care, Safeguarding.

Are you happy with this Looking? I'm not sure I would be confident to sit with ofsted and go through a deep dive with no extra time or remuneration for a lot of extra work on top of normal classroom duties Confused

Anyone else?

Half a day per term for Maths.
I'm UPS1.

The school has no money. We're all expensive teachers, so until one of us leaves and we can employ an NQT, we're stuffed. We need a 1:1 for a new child - we're going to have to dip into the reserves, even though we shouldn't for that.

Small school syndrome Sad

I'm UPS and responsible for Maths and Computing no TLR. Budget very tight.

I understand budgets being tight and wanting to get experience in order to apply for promotions but since maternity leave it really annoys me that we take on extra work for free!

Our Maths, STEM and English leads receive a TLR of approx 2.5k (large school, challenging area.) I'd pay them double that to keep them - they have completely changed the face of teaching in our school.

I get a TLR for English.

No of course I’m not happy about it but the way I see it is that it should be leadership, management and governance that is slated in the Ofsted report in this case. How can subject leaders be held accountable when they are not able to do their (unpaid) role?

Report
FishfingerSandwiches4Tea · 15/10/2019 21:34

That's true Looking, I hadn't thought of it that way. I think I'd still feel like I'd let everyone down though, even though you can only do your best Sad

Isn't it just part of the whole school impact required for UPS?

I get a TLR for being key stage lead, nothing for being maths and RE lead, and we're a church school so RE lead gets the joy of a SIAMS inspection too

UPS. Have led science for the past five years. All age special school so lead across phases from Foundation to K.S. 3. No TLR and no release time. And I currently work part time (three days a week).
