Hi, long term lurker here SmileI've applied for a class teacher post and explicitly wrote about my ks1 experience in my form and supporting letter. The school have offered me an interview and lesson obs in year 4. Now, I have absolutely no experience in ks2 so really not comfortable in teaching a yr 4 class showing challenge and effective questioning, as they've asked.
What do I do? Prepare and fail at my lesson obs or withdraw completely? The interview is this week and I've been told today that it's year 4. It's a school I'd love to work in too Grin

Do they say the is for KS2? My experience as a biology teacher was that I was given a physics lesson as an interview lesson so they could see how I was on my weaker areas. I got the job. Maybe they need you to teach year 4 at some point or perhaps they move their teachers in rotation?

Thing is, the school will want someone who's happy not to limit themselves to a particular phase or year group as there's always the inevitable juggle of staff every year. A Primary teacher should be able to adapt to all year groups, even if we have our favourites! One of our year six teachers is comnig to the end of her first year in year 2 and says it's been a massive eye opener for her.

Valid points, thank you for replying. I just think I'd struggle even knowing where to start 🙈

How can you not have any experience teaching in ks2? Surely that’s an essential part of your pgce? Confused

Schools move you around frequently. Year 6 one year, reception the next. They'll want someone who is flexible and who can adapt to different year groups. They were clearly impressed by your cv so just go for it

Could you use some PPA time before the interview to observe Year 4 in your current school and maybe look through schemes of work/ chat to the teacher before planning your lesson?
