In your experiences are schools often going with the nqts or are you finding people with lots of experience are still getting jobs? (Science subject)

The right candidate will get the job generally. If it's a shortage subject like maths or science I think schools are more likely to want the right person and are willing to pay more. I recently got a new job in a sixth form college and the mostly matched my wage even though I was losing a TLR and moving to the sixth form college scale, which puts me near the top.

Thanks. I’ve been to interviews in the last couple of years where they have shortlisted all the trainees at lunch and all the experienced were sent home! Mentally preparing myself for that but trying not to be too negative about it 😬

It's2oclock I've had the displeasure of experiencing this recently too. Scary time to be over 35!

I know less about secondary, but in Primary, it is really difficult.
I know people who have given up trying, and moved to Private schools.

Time and time again, jobs offered to another candidate purely because they were considerably cheaper. Sad

Yea. I hope if that’s what they are looking for then I don’t shortlist! I know I’d have a better chance if it was a tlr position but there isn’t one around (and I don’t want one)

I think a lot will depend on what you're offering beyond classroom teaching, for example have you mentored trainees/NQTs, led CPD etc.
As you're science, in many areas that should give you a head start, especially if you've got a good set of results.
