Working before mat leave ends

I was wondering if anyone could help with this. My last SMP payment is this month. I have resigned with my last day being 22nd April as per normal resignation dates.

Obviously I won't be getting paid in April so am I allowed to do supply/tutoring from 1st April even though my official resignation isn't until after the Easter hols?

My current employer won't allow me back for a week as then they would have to pay full pay through the holidays too.

Fairly sure they can't 'not let you back'. I suggest you phone a union if you are in one.

You can tell them that hen you're returning. I've resigned too but put my return date as 5th April. I'll work one day but get paid holidays. I think you need to give 3 weeks notice though so email tonight of you can!!!

Your return to work from maternity leave date can be a Saturday or the first day of the holidays, you don’t have to do any work in order to somehow qualify for the holiday pay. School can’t refuse for you to come back from mat leave as long as you give the appropriate notices, although with less than a month less until Easter you might have missed the boat.

Thank you everyone, it seems as though I've I've been an idiot and missed out. School must be very pleased.
