If you are a HOD, could you help me out?

I am a HOD of a core subject in a small secondary school.

I have four non contacts a week. One is a meeting. So three. I am teaching 26/30 lessons.

That doesn't seem right, does it?

3 PPA a week is standard for a non TLR teacher
4 PPA for a HOD doesn't seem much to me if one is a meeting. A friend of mine has 6 a week and struggles because a couple are for meetings.
How small is the school? How big is the team?

That’s crazy. Classroom teachers with no TLR do 25/30 in my school. Most middle leaders do 23/30 and the heads of Maths and English do 22, I think. I now do 20 with my TLR but I also attend SLT and a couple of my frees I’m actually “on-call”.

I feel really stressed out. Plus, one of my classes totals thirty one and the marking is horrendous. I also have a tutor group and am expected to hold interviews with them on a regular basis.

Plus interventions and so on ... I just don't know when I'm expected to have a life, I really don't.

We have a 2 week timetable. Week A I teach 19/25, week B I teach 21 plus a meeting. Guess which week I prefer!

Theres little use comparing to other schools, other than applying for other jobs. What is standard for HODs in your school? Have you checked?

I'm a HOD of English in a school of approx 800 kids and I teach 18 out of 30 lessons. I don't have a form group. In my free periods I have to do 2 x line management meetings, 1 x on call and 1 x intervention. I also have to do 1 x after school detention, 1 x after school meeting and 1 x after school intervention a week.
