Please help me about my sick note

I'm off work (teacher in an academy) with stress and anxiety (linked to home not work)
I was signed off for three weeks and handed my sick note in. Was then signed off for another 4 weeks. This runs out during half term when nobody will be in school.
I know I'm going g to be given another sick note. But what do i do about it?
How can I get it to them if they're not there?
And if I don't have it done til the first day when everyone's back then will it be classed as two separated instances so my Bradford scale will be buggered (probably is already)
I've got a phone consultation with my Dr tomorrow. Can she give me one over the phone? (well I pick it up from the Dr's) Can they be forward dated? I feel sick I'm so anxious about it all

It shouldn't be classed as two separate instances if the dates on the sick notes are back to back, don't worry! Is there an address you can email a scan of the note to so they can see when you sent it too?

There is an email address yes. So as long as they had evidence of it even if nobody was there to pick it up/see it it's enough?

Presumably if there's no one there to receive it, there's no one there to log it either, so no, it shouldn't matter. Just make sure your manager is aware too.

Why do teachers always assume that there is no-one there in the holidays? I guarantee that the support staff, including HR, will be in so just send your certificate as normal.

Just post it. It will be postmarked. I would be very surprised if there’s no one in next week anyway, admin are usually in during the holidays.

I've had to do this before. I'd email to say my note has been extended with the new date it expires, make a copy/take pic on phone as my reference and then post it to them.

I don't assume there's nobody there Sue. I know the lady who deals with it isn't it. But thanks for the support

Think logically about this, if the person who deals with sick notes is off on holiday who is going to have processed it immediately anyway?!

Go to the doctor as planned, get a sick note. On that day email the person and say i’ve got a new note to cover me until X date and i’ll Put it in the post tomorrow etc...

Your sick note can apply retrospectively so even if it gets to school later it can be backdated to the first day of your new period of absence.

😂 no you can’t guarantee that! My school, for example, is fully closed. No one can go in even if they want to.

Really, so how do you suppose you get paid then? Do you think the grounds and gardens magically look after themselves? Do you think the classrooms remain dust free and sparkly for the entire holidays?
I've worked in three different senior schools and I can assure you that, in all of them, the support staff worked 52 week contracts.

@SueDunome it’s a small primary and the premises manager will be the only person on site (perhaps some building contraries?) doing works to the fencing. Both our office staff are on holiday. The cleaners came on Friday evening as usual. The deep cleans happen over the longer holidays so they won’t be in next week (I had the “how lovely to have a week off” chat with mine.)

Working in three whole senior schools doesn’t mean you have knowledge of how every school in the country works.

Brilliant Sue. Well done.

Anyway, sorry if I derailed your thread @delilabell - it’s probably not what you need at the moment! I really hope things look up for you soon.

Thank you everyone.
Dr was lovely (as always-I'm so lucky to have a good one) she's done one that overlaps my current one so I just need to collect it and post it in. I've emailed lady in charge and my line managers too.
Sue: as I said I work for an academy. The hr and payroll people are on another site. I don't really want the groundsmen or cleaners to be dealing with my (very personal) sick note.
Thanjs to everyone who was supportive. I really appreciate it x

We don't have any support staff in my school in the holidays either. School is shut. Not every school in the country is the same.

Best wishes delilabell. It can be quite stressful being off work and dealing with admin when you just need to get better. Look after yourself.
