I am on Term 4 (NZ) of a tricky class. Other staff members completely acknowledge that I have a very difficult class with around a third of the children having SEN or severe emotional needs. I spend a lot of time on behaviour management, circle time twice a day, positive behaviour strategies. But my head doesn't recognize what I am dealing with. He maintains that this is normal behaviour and has taken to complaining about the amount of time I am 'wasting' on social and emotional learning. He has complained st me about every class incentive I have used - so no golden time, no working towards a class treat. I am all out of ideas about how to encourage and reward. And btw, last years teacher used to break down and cry in the classroom a couple of times a week because of this combination of children. I on the other hand cry in the car on the way home because I feel so unsupported. A couple of months ago I became very sick. It ended up being pneumonia and I am sure the stress I am feeling contributed to this.
