Anyone do PUMA & PIRA tests?

My class have all achieved GD in the Summer 3 PUMA which I was both shocked and pleased by. SLT now picking holes saying too much revision too close to the test.
If you do PUMA, what do you do in the couple of weeks preceding to prepare?

I have used them,not long back and did nothing to prepare them beyond teaching tothe usual curriculum year targets. In a lower ks2 programme the results weren't great at end of year 3 but the majority were flying by end of year 4. No problems. You know if you did too much to prepare them, if you don't feel you did explain to SLT and ask them what evidence they have for these accusations and to formalise them by putting them into writing. If they are serious they will if they know they are being a bit out of order I expect they will back down and forget it. Either way, you have done well...worked hard so stuff 'em....

Sorry, parent question. I've just heard my year 3 son got 15 in the maths and should've been 18 age related. (Out of 40???). It sounded like he did v badly to me. Is there somewhere I can practise these tests or otherwise support. Is it possible to do badly now and improve like you say in y4, even with 15? No problem if you don't want to answer :). Bit worried as due to illness son has had four main teachers and countless subs this year.

Do you think your children would still achieve the same results after the summer hols? My school would want to be careful that if w child reached GD in year 3, that they would also achieve GD in years 4, 5 and 6, otherwise their progress would look poor.
We avoid revision but try to 'keep things ticking' with warm- ups each maths lesson

Also, teacher assessment takes PUMA and PIRA into account but we use on going assessments to make final judgements.

GenericHamster- children can definitely make accelerated progress some years and slower progress during others. I'd recommend focusing on securing the basics: times tables, number bonds, doubling and halving. Hit the Button is a great app/website to do this as it's short games. There are apps you can subscribe too to try to give your child a boost over the summer- doodle maths is good. Or get a Year 3 maths book to work through. Short, regular exercises can help but only if your child is willing! Teaching to tell the time and understand measures through baking, using a tape measure etc is beneficial too.

Mamma's advice is sound. I am sorry your ds has had a disrupted year he is by no means alone there is many a class out there struggling to maintain continuity of teaching this year. In my experience it is not uncommon to dip at end of year 3 and bounce back by end year 4 as long as year 4 teaching/parental input is sound. I wouldn't be unduly worried about a 3 mark gap I cannot believe the pressure being put on everyone!Good luck!

Erm none! Mine are in year one. The test covers the year and whatever they get they get.
It’s used as an aide to teacher assessment at my school and it’s a good way to pick up gaps. I’m independent though.
