No winding down at and if year!

Anyone else feel that there is no winding down happening in their school? I am secondary and hold a TLR. Y11 and 13 have finished so I have some gained time and with only a few weeks to go, things should be feeling easier.

Except they're......

NOT!!!

Observations, and of year exams/reports and planning for next year including some pretty big planning docs to be completed.

I'm utterly exhausted and quite frankly not feeling inspired enough to plan next year yet!

Tell me I am not alone and can make it to summer! Please!

I hear ya!
We were told tonight in no uncertain terms that we were not to wind down, but put the foot on the accelerator.
Thouroughly done and exhausted. I actually felt so tired tonight I kept getting dizzy, like I've pulled an all nighter!
I'm sure there's loads of us who feel like this.
It doesn't make it ok but at least we don't have the added pressure of thinking it's us who can't cope when we hear each other's stories.

I had my final lesson observation this week. I was so pleased when they walked in - at least I know my lessons are safe from visitors now! But yes, shitloads of assessments, internal exams, data tracking, reports, it's never ending.

I'm relatively new to school life after 23 years in industry. It always feels a bit like "cheating" to me when things slowdown towards the end of term, after a life of full on stress 12 months a year.

I'm with you all. One final observation, one big presentation to complete a year long course, 3 trips, and all the usual stuff still to go. I'm leaving this year, but still so much to sort. I shouldn't care, but I do!

So glad someone else has said this! I was lurking on here at the start of the week wondering if anyone else felt the same way but nothing had been posted so thought it might just be me - glad it’s not. Everyone around me (non teachers) keep telling me ‘the summer is so close’ ‘think of that long holiday’ but it still seems far away and SO much to do.
I also think that as the children start to wind themselves up as they can taste the freedom that in turn takes more energy from the staff to keep them calm, focused and on the right track. Exhausting!

I'm with you! We've had ofsted and now being moderated. Then we have a performance to cobble together, reports, data, parents evening, school fair...

I keep slurring my words and feel drunk I'm so tired!

PumpkinPie2016 · 20/06/2018 06:53

Lots of us feeling the same!

I second the dizzy/drunk feelings!

I've woken up this morning feeling exhausted so no idea what I'll be like by this evening!

Pixie I have experienced the 4am wake ups before and it's miserable so you have my sympathies Flowers

monkey I have heard of a few schools doing that! Thankfully, mine doesn't as I honestly don't think I have the energy for new classes at the moment.

Done pretty much no work today oops! Took DS to the park to enjoy the nice weather!

End of year exams, field trips, data, data, more data, observations, update/wteaj all SoW and lessons to reflect new style GCSEs and A levels....

Not much better in primary with so many events between now and the end of term it's busier than ever. The children get excited and harder to manage as a result too. I get mad when people say "ooh you must be winding down now" grrrr

Yep observations and KS3 analysis for past two weeks, PMR observation to be done - oh and no gained time for me as not allowed to teach KS4/5 as I am part time Hmm.

Oh and having to arrange a funeral and deal with sorting probate as well as normal family life as well.

Roll on the summer holidays!

I hate observation at this time of the year so do everything possible to have it during the year as it is easier too.

Maybe it is just me but I go full on at this time of the year because anything I do now will make life easier in September. At least I have a long summer to look forward to, not like September.

Sports day, reports out, parents' evening, summer fair, y6 concert, STEM week etc etc etc.

Oh, and new topics for next year (and I'm in a new year group), trying to change things ready for the new Donaldson curriculum. So lots of planning for next term in our 'free' time.

And strict instructions from the top to not wind down until the very last days of the last week.

PumpkinPie2016 · 04/07/2018 18:49

Still hanging in there, just about, but I am well and truly done!

I have done lots of the big jobs for my TLR sets, data etc. But still have a lot to do for Sept and the list seems to be getting longer not shorter!

I am hoping to work extra hard for the last two weeks so that life is easier in September and I can enjoy the summer!

In primary there is no gained time. Y6 are too big for their boots. Summer music concerts/ leavers' assemblies/ summer fair/ church service to prepare for. No displays allowed to be taken down until last day of term. Hot Victorian build school withe no air con. Meetings to discuss transition. Transition day. Sports day. Parents kicking off about everything. Ugh.
