How much non-contact time?

Name changes... I’m just wondering if you’d be happy to share how many non-contacts teachers and heads of department/faculty get at your school? I think I’m on a lot less than local peers.

Primary subject leader 2 hours PPA plus 0.

At my old school (state secondary):

Teacher: 8/50 of which 5 are PPA. Others can be used for cover (usually about 1)
HOD of large department: 11/50 of which 5 PPA and 2 are MLT.
HOD of small department: 9/50 (5 PPA, 1 MLT)
HOY: 15/50 (5 PPA, 2 MLT)

MLT can be taken as a last resort for cover if needed. Tutor period rotates throughout the timetable and tough sh*t if it falls in your PPA.

HOF 38 or 9 I think ; but they keep protesting and get given more and aren't tutors either

Secondary HOD here.

I teach 22/30 hours, so 8 hours “free”. I don’t have a form, which frees up another couple of hours. I only have 20 minutes of duty a week, and am at the bottom of the cover list (I have done two covers since September).

When I was a Head of Core Subject I notionally taught 38/50. However, I was never fully staffed, so actually was timetabled for 45/50. The Head of English did do 38/50. Head of History/languages/PE did 42/50. Classroom teacher 45/50.

I am a HoF and am timetabled to do 27/40. (Private through school) quite a lot of cover (at least weekly) also timetable is slightly lighter in recognition that each term I have large scale performances of various types throughout the year and use my ‘frees’ for masses of extra rehearsals with whichever year groups are involved.

I teach until after 4pm every day. I teach an 87% timetable... It's completely unsustainable with all the marking and in depth planning required. I was told it was 'about 80% teaching' during my interview...

At many schools there are only 25 teaching hours possible in the week. So I am essentially teaching over 100% of that timetable...

What they told me at interview and what is reality are two different things. How is that such a problem with you craftygin?? Verbal instruction during negotiation form part of my contract. I was mislead in my teaching hours. Wouldn't that make you a bit peeved?

Why aren't you interrogating anyone else?? What is your problem with me?

Thank you all. This is helpful. @physicskate, I’m in a similar situation and feeling thoroughly helpless. I don’t want to resign as I love the job itself, but I’m bloody pissed off so tempted to. I’m sorry you’re going through it too. Have you spoken to union or anyone? I’d love to hear any advice you were given about it.
