Name changes... I’m just wondering if you’d be happy to share how many non-contacts teachers and heads of department/faculty get at your school? I think I’m on a lot less than local peers.
Thank you!

Secondary + TLR as 2nd in dept = 6 periods. Not really enough to do both jobs properly.

DumbledoresApprentice Sat 03-Feb-18 09:03:23

classroom teachers 5/30 free
NQTs 8/30 free
HOD 7/30 free (although heads of Eng and Maths have an extra one or two)

At my old school (state secondary):

Teacher: 8/50 of which 5 are PPA. Others can be used for cover (usually about 1)
HOD of large department: 11/50 of which 5 PPA and 2 are MLT.
HOD of small department: 9/50 (5 PPA, 1 MLT)
HOY: 15/50 (5 PPA, 2 MLT)

MLT can be taken as a last resort for cover if needed. Tutor period rotates throughout the timetable and tough sh*t if it falls in your PPA.

NQT 12/30 free. Next year will be 6/30

I'm 3 days private Primary. I have 2.5 days in class, and half a day ppa.

superram Sat 03-Feb-18 11:40:16

Normal teacher 42/50 per fortnight. Hod is 39/50 core might be more.

Piggywaspushed Sat 03-Feb-18 12:03:45

Secondary : normal teacher 43/50 (technically 44 if not a tutor but that is never invoked it seems)

HOD of small dept or similar role 42 or 41

2nd in English / maths about 41

HOF 38 or 9 I think ; but they keep protesting and get given more and aren't tutors either

HOY 36

Secondary HOD here.

I teach 22/30 hours, so 8 hours “free”. I don’t have a form, which frees up another couple of hours. I only have 20 minutes of duty a week, and am at the bottom of the cover list (I have done two covers since September).

TheFallenMadonna Sat 03-Feb-18 12:43:17

When I was a Head of Core Subject I notionally taught 38/50. However, I was never fully staffed, so actually was timetabled for 45/50. The Head of English did do 38/50. Head of History/languages/PE did 42/50. Classroom teacher 45/50.

Unicorndiscoball Sat 03-Feb-18 12:47:02

I am a HoF and am timetabled to do 27/40. (Private through school) quite a lot of cover (at least weekly) also timetable is slightly lighter in recognition that each term I have large scale performances of various types throughout the year and use my ‘frees’ for masses of extra rehearsals with whichever year groups are involved.

Fizzandpeanuts Sat 03-Feb-18 15:35:58

10% if whatever your hours are, FT Teacher usually 2.5 hours a week for PPA

physicskate Sat 03-Feb-18 17:40:14

53/60 two week timetable. Independent secondary school. Not what I was told at interview. I've submitted my resignation...

CraftyGin Sat 03-Feb-18 19:33:25

What do you think us unreasonable, Kate, or what the school could do differently?

physicskate Sat 03-Feb-18 19:52:08

I teach until after 4pm every day. I teach an 87% timetable... It's completely unsustainable with all the marking and in depth planning required. I was told it was 'about 80% teaching' during my interview...

At many schools there are only 25 teaching hours possible in the week. So I am essentially teaching over 100% of that timetable...

CraftyGin Sat 03-Feb-18 20:38:00

But presumably you get 18/19 weeks holiday a year?

CraftyGin Sat 03-Feb-18 20:38:46

What should the school do differently?

physicskate Sat 03-Feb-18 21:29:35

What they told me at interview and what is reality are two different things. How is that such a problem with you craftygin?? Verbal instruction during negotiation form part of my contract. I was mislead in my teaching hours. Wouldn't that make you a bit peeved?

Why aren't you interrogating anyone else?? What is your problem with me?

Jacobismygirl Sat 03-Feb-18 21:33:39

Secondary....6 free periods out of 30

Goldrill Sat 03-Feb-18 21:48:47

Nqt secondary 40/50
Next year will be 45/50
Existing teachers in dept are 43/50
