What are colleges and unis wanting? What grade will be now classed as the C in the classic "A* to C"?

Latest I heard is that a 4 is a pass and a 5 is a good pass. I know that at my school, for entry to our sixth form, we are looking for 5 and above.

I teach Science so this is our first year of the new grades and exams - to be honest, we are dreading the results because the specimen papers have been so difficult.

Justine Greening wrote a letter saying that everywhere that used to accept a C should consider a 4 good enough.

Whether they actually pay attention to that letter is another matter.

I looked through a load of uni prospectuses over the last few months. Only one (and I can't recall which : sorry) said it wanted 5s and I assume it just hadn't been reprinted yet.

We did change parts of our A level admissions policy because of this : it is all a bit of a shambles at the moment!

It's just so unclear at the moment. If we have students that are respectable 4s, should we push them and stress them out to grade 5s??? 4 seems fine to me but it's what colleges want isn't it.

No, they don't : they want 4s! Or do you mean sixth form colleges?

Just looked on one of my local college's websites. Entry requirements are " six passes at GCSE including two at Grade 6." Well what's a pass??

Ok another college was a bit clearer: "6 GCSEs between 9 to 4 including English, Maths or Science."

Yes, well as I have said on previous thread these colleges are up their own arses and need to be challenged. If a 4 is fine for ALL unis, why not for SFCs??

They just haven't changed their admissions since the update! It isn't fair on students.

Are you in a competitive area with lots of SFCs and providers?

So unis say a 4 then? We have quite a few colleges round us but not many seem to actually offer a full range of alevels.
