A position for HOD has arose - would I be mad for applying even though I am pregnant and wouldn’t be able to start the role fully until July 19? Is HOD too much with a young baby?

Depends what state the department is currently in. Are there good SOW and resources in place? Is the staff turnover low? If so I would say you
Might be okay, if not then. I wouldn't with a little baby

Is it your first child? If so, I would hold off on any career decisions until you go back to work. I had all sorts of notions about what I would do until I actually had kids and I ended up applying for part-time on maternity leave which I didn't expect at all.

I think HOD with a baby would also be difficult, you'd be pulled in two directions and potentially also unable to work the hours you'd want to due to childcare.
