TA job interview advice please

Hi there,
I've got an interview on Thursday, it's for a TA post in Year 3. I've got a bit of experience as a TA, but not in KS2 so looking for some guidance really.
I was told I'd be given a written task to talk about a maths activity (this would obviously let them assess my written English as well) and a reading activity with a small group followed by the interview itself.
I'm a bit confused about the reading activity as I'm not too sure what a reading session in Year 3 looks like. I was told I am to read a book (which they will provide) and talk about it. Is this guided reading? But then if it was, wouldn't they have said so?

I asked DS (who's in Year 3) if they are read to at school and he said no! They do have a book they were asked to read in the summer holidays, but I think they mostly use it as a tool to teach writing. So the teacher would read a chapter, then ask the kids to write a letter from one character to another, convert it into a play script, write a diary, etc.

If it was Reception/Y1, I'd totally know what to do. With Y3... I mean I could test their comprehension, ask them to imagine what would happen next/what would have happened if.., how the story relates to their own experiences, etc. I'm just afraid this is a bit primitive for a classroom activity! Any insight?

TIA Flowers

We do an afternoon adult reading session in KS2 but it's for pleasure, not to check comprehension. Sounds like they're asking for a guided reading session.

Google the KS2 reading VIPERS from the literacy shed blog - it has question stems to work from, for example, you could focus on inference questions and it would give you a couple of examples of inference type questions to ask. Same with vocab and summary, etc. They're free, too!

How long is the small group activity?

Are you able to ask them what the text will be in advance? Also, whether any of the chn are SEN or well below the expected level - will allow you to plan how you pitch it!

Honey - thanks so much, will check VIPERS out. I already had to ask what the written task and the activity would be, as the original email didn't say. I don't feel so brave as to go back and ask for more detail TBH Blush
prima - I don't know how long it's meant to last, I did ask.
Basically I'll try and prepare for a guided reading session, I guess that should be the most difficult option! Smile

Well TAs should have to plan but follow the plan - it will be guided reading

Ask about the cover, the blurb - contents or index etc if they've read some ask to 'catch up' on the story

They are looking to see if the kids are engaged and interested
