Exam marking on maternity

Exactly that really.

Does exam marking for an exam board affects my maternity pay that I receive from my school employer?

One source says no but it needs to be declared as self employment.

One source says it has no bearing at all.

One source says I will have to reimburse the 3 to 4 weeks of SMP back.

I am only on maternity for another 3 weeks and am due to start marking tomorrow!

It's fine, and it will take them until you are back to pay you. (I'm assuming)

I think if you're earning smp at the time the you get paid less?? But at the end of your mat leave maybe no difference

I declared it on my tax return as self-employment, but I had to do a tax return that year anyway. I wouldn't worry - as the other poster said, by the time they get round to paying you the mat leave will be over!

I was on a team with a marker who was on adoption leave. I don't know for definite but I'm sure he wouldnt have been doing it if it was going to reduce his pay

I did it and it was fine. I also did a tax return that year.

Do you have to do a tax return if you do exam marking then?

Depends if the exam board taxes you. One did, one didn't. I also tutored.
