How much PPA do you get?

From September I'll be working 4 days over 5 (two days I finish at midday). I've just received my timetable and it looks like I get one hour per day. It's a private school. I've taught in private before but never had my PPA broken up like this. Is it a "thing"?

That's loads of ppa! I am on a 0.6 contract (3 days) and get 1 hour of ppa.

The official guidelines are 10% so full time should be 2.5 hours a week. For four days it would be 2 hours a week. There is also a recommendation that the block of time should be no less than 30minutes. I once worked 2 days a week and had 30 minutes each morning. I actually loved it. I now work 2.5 days and get two blocks of 45 minutes.

Oh really? I thought it was pretty average for an independent. I think I get about 5.5/6 hours but over the week.

It might be average for an independent school but definitely comes under the banner of "you don't know you're born" for the state sector

I work in a state special school and I get 3 hours a week and I teach 26 hours/5 days.

All teachers at our school get 2 1/2 hours per week regardless of how many days they work.

It works out as about 30 minutes for every day you work in my school so full timers get 2.5 hours but if you do 3 days, you go to 1.5h etc

The few staff that are full time get an afternoon a week. The logistics of organising it for the part time teachers is a nightmare! We discussed it and they preferred a full afternoon less frequently than several short sessions to make up their 10% entitlement. So if the work four days a week they get a full afternoon in four out of five weeks, if they work three days a week they get an afternoon in three out of five weeks, etc.

Sounds like 6 hours for a 4 day part timer is a great deal. Our days are longer though.

Full time teacher in an Indy here! I have 2hrs10mins non-contact time per week this term, in three lots (1hr on Wednesday, 40mins on Thursday and 30mins on Friday). Some terms I get a bit more, depending on what PE session my class has.

In Scotland full time members of staff get 300 minutes per week.

Should have said - 300 minutes is the minimum non-contact time per week in Scotland. Anything over that you can be used for cover (or "yufties" which come from the days when janitors came round with slips of paper with the cover details on them, saying "yuftie take this class" 😃 )

My full time staff get half a day a week, so equivalent to a full day over a fortnight. Staff working three days get half a day every other week. Apart from NQTs staff can take their PPA at home. We have permanent PPA cover teachers and if staff need to swap their PPA to do something, such as a child's sports day etc. Then they can, I don't mind what they use their PPA for as long as they are doing their job. They also get half a day every fortnight to meet with their planning team.
