Debating resources - year 8

I decided, in a fit of NQT enthusiasm, to run a debate for Y8 after half term. And I am now slightly stuck and slightly regretting it!

I've got two lessons to prep it, on climate change - a topic they have been taught for this half term. It's science, but I am going for the ethics side because I think we have taken the actual science side as far as we can with them. So along the lines of - "developed countries should do the most to combat climate change", type of thing. I can get lots of resources for older kids/adults to debate, but I am struggling to see how to set it up so Y8 have something to research etc.

Any ideas appreciated!

Ask your languages department. They will have tons of material and ideas on how to break it down.

I'm tired and can't think, but we do stuff like sort lots of given arguments into positive and negative etc.

Go to the ESU website and they have loads of ideas on how to start off a debated club, eg one minute round robins etc.
