With Year 6, I have done:
Eleven (They loved that one. It's about 9/11.)
The Giver (My class were quite grown up and they really enjoyed that in term 6.)

Once by Morris Gleitzman is amazing. Might be worth a go.

Skellig is good to teach but it's been done so many times... we've done Kensuke's Kingdom though Private Peaceful is so much better.

We've introduced After Tomorrow with Year 8 this year - great book. It kind of flips the refugee crisis on its head and imagines that British people are having to flee across the channel and live in camps in France. I think it would be okay for Year 7 but you might want to give it a read to check.

Along the same lines, Oranges in No-Mans Land is shorter and thought provoking. Makes you think about who draws the lines, why, etc.
