Oh no. Do you want to tell us about it? Or shall we just send Gin?

Sending hugs! What happened? Was it really that bad?

The lesson they set me was actually impossible (I only figured This out when I arrived, within 2 minutes of starting the lesson I could see the blank, bemused faces on the students)

Yup, I've had a diabolical interview lesson too. Don't worry, it will soon be a distant memory.

Lucky escape then. Go on, tell us the task.

Worst

Report
Shadowboy · 15/05/2017 21:47

Basically "The impacts of Global warming on the arctic" to a class who had never heard of the arctic or global warming. So I couldn't do the impacts bit as they couldn't get the effect of they hadn't learnt the cause.

Sorry for the typos - shattered after an awful and long day.

The school was also not welcoming- sat completely on my own with no contact from even the department for the entire 5 hours!

Sounds like a very lucky escape - uninformed kids you can work with, miserable, unwelcoming colleagues you can't.

It kind of sounds like they set you up to fail. Drink the alcohol, eat the ice-cream and try not to think about your near miss. Imagine actually having to work in such a cold, uninviting and unwelcoming place every day?

I once taught an interview lesson so bad, one of the Y9 girls in the class came up to me whilst I was teaching and asked if I needed any help Grin

DH once taught an interview lesson where he used a chocolate bar as a prop. One of the kids nicked the chocolate bar and ate it during the lesson.

I once did an interview lesson where one of the children stopped me halfway through and said 'excuse me but we don't understand, you should have done it this way'

To be fair, he was right too. This was a year three class Blush

I also once taught an interview lesson based on different reactions between solids and liquids. Five children had to leave the classroom because of the hideous smell.

I hope 'worse' is a typo if you are a teacher.

Ha ha yes, it is indeed a typo. My fat fingers and my iPhone aren't the most effective combination at the best of times!

Was there an internal candidate? I have suspicions about setting an impossible task for an interview lesson and it's miserable to be dragged into an interview as one of the "6 they've shortlisted" only to meet the shoe-in internal candidate.

My worst lessons (not for interview) are waaaay worse.

Like the one where a diabetic kid became non-responsive & I needed to try and bring her round, but the Year 9 boys took advantage of the distraction to run around on top of the tables.

OR when one set of kids staged a fight in the corridor, and while I was gone their mate broke open my solid wood desk drawer to see if I had anything worth stealing.

Or - the kid who tried to show off that he could punch a window without breaking it, but (of course) broke it and cut his hand open really badly.

Or the kid who drew pictures of what he thought I'd look like naked and put them in my desk drawer to surprise me.

Does it feel any better, yet, OP? See, it could have been so much worse.
