High Ability Y8 Interview, any advice?

I have been asked for my first ever interview!
It's at a lovely school, I met the Head and had a walk around the school and a really good, informal chat, after which she asked me to apply.
It's teaching poetry to a class of high achievers, which I'm very much looking forward to.
I will be an NQT, and my degree is in Primary Education so Y8 is a bit above where I usually teach, up to Y6.
I've had a look for inspiration on TES and I'm looking at some other websites now, just wondering if you had any suggestions?
Many thanks!

What about Seamus Heaney's "Early Purges"? Very clever poem but can be read "easily" and then has something more complex going on. Big shock value (kittens being drowned) but a clear message that you can work towards.

Alternatively, Carol Ann Duffy is popular maybe Stealing which is a really good dramatic monologue.

Pm me (High School English teacher) and I can send you stuff by e-mail.

Oh, another popular one I teach is "Girl" by Edwin Morgan which is about Euthanasia. Good to have an issue so that you can look beyond poetic techniques and to why we write poetry - linking with big debates.

Hi, apologies for hijacking the thread, but I wondered if you could recommend some titles for avid reader DS, Yr8.

He's read most of the usual suspects (Harry Potter/Percy Jackson/the Wonder series/classics/LOTR/Hunger Games/Divergent series/Pulman) and is enjoying Terry Pratchett and Hitchhikers, so what should be next on his list? Any ideas would be great!
