Jobs advertised as mps

This may be a silly question but would they consider a ups candidate and would I need to state on the letter or somewhere something along the lines of "look I'm not interested if you're offering only to pay up to m6" ( obviously lit written like that 😀)?

I doubt it-unless you are a maths teacher!

Pay portability has been scrapped now anyway so just because you are UPS in one school doesn't mean you will be in another.

I would imagine the job is advertised as MPS as their budget is screwed and they can only afford an NQT.

Very unlikely if it's advertised as mps.

If it states MPS they are very unlikely to increase it to UPS pay. You could always telephone the school and ask them before applying.

I doubt it too- so many jobs are now advertised as MPS only so for a teacher with 20 years experience who is on UPS3 and who might be made redundant because of funding cuts the future looks very grim. In what other profession is experience so discounted? Tell you what I don't want the consultant to do my operation, get the junior doctor with 2 years experience to do it instead. 😡
I still have 20 more years before I get my pension too

We have a MS post advertised ATM. It depends on the response, if we can;t fill it with someone suitable we'll consider UPS but we'll have to cut something else in the budget to pay for it. Probably your TA

Wouldn't it be simplest to ask the school in question? They're best placed to know if they'd consider a UPS. Everything else is simply speculation.

Check with the school before spending hours on an application form!

You being UPS now doesn't mean you are excluded from applying. As rollon says, pay portability has gone. You can apply for and accept the job at M6.

Obviously you wouldn't want to take a pay cut, but there is no reason on their side why they have to match your current pay.

I'm on UPS3 and have a hefty TLR. I now basically have the choice of looking at DH/HT posts, taking a whacking great cut, or staying where I am. Bloody lucky I like it there! Gin

TBF I don't think that's different in teaching to any other job. DH is a long established engineer. If for any reason he had to leave, it's very unlikely he'd get another job at the same salary. I was a banker for 25 years, but after redundancy have never matched my old salary.

I've emailed two schools and they both have said they would consider someone on ups. As you say whether that will transfer or not. But I'm a science teacher and there are a tonne of jobs so perhaps that will work in my favour
