My pink highlighter is twitching

The Mothers' Day post from my children's school has two misused apostrophes and a spelling mistake with a plural. Yes, I am a pedant! Yes my pink highlighter is itching to go! I am quite prepared to get flamed but if the Head can't do basic SPAG how can she teach it?
Thanks, I feel so much better now.

Pink is good for us. I think we're the opposite to every other school ever.

No. we're the same as you, Lady. Tickled pink.

Pink for think, green for go.

What are the mistakes out of interest?
I thought it is supposed to be Mother's Day, not Mothers' Day?

Swissgemma Sun 26-Mar-17 15:53:46

The day of all the mothers so mothers'

It's Mother's Day. Google Anna Jarvis.

RandomDent Sun 26-Mar-17 15:57:42

I've gone for Mother's.

allegretto Sun 26-Mar-17 16:00:47

Mother's is fine - the day of the generic mother. grin Mind you, someone will be along to say that it's Mothering Sunday in a minute.

Mother's Day is correct.

It is not a day for ALL mothers it is a day for YOUR mother.

DrSeuss Sun 26-Mar-17 16:12:38

Fair enough. It's still not a "day for all the Mummy's" sic.

I feel your pain. The amount of letters sent out with wrong dates on, spelling mistakes, and then we have a staff meeting about making good sure that we encourage the children to take or ideas in their work and SPAG is important. smile

Starlight21 Sun 26-Mar-17 19:23:06

Oops apologies lol

Our head continually sends out letters about concerts etc stating that "The children have been practicing hard" [hmm}.

Our well-meaning PTA chair was urging the pupils to "hand in there competition entries" on our FB page.

(Pink highlighter twitching like mad)

But the head doesn't do the letters surely? In my school it's the office staff/pa/reception staff

CheeseAtFourpence Tue 28-Mar-17 21:09:29

I also feel your pain. My child was recently encouraged to try and write "Austrailia" hmm

DanyellasDonkey Tue 28-Mar-17 22:27:37

Yes the head does do the letters. Myself and another teacher are old school SPAG pedants and we have told her several times that she's wrong but it keeps happening so we've now given up sad

Katnisnevergreen Tue 28-Mar-17 22:53:59

Maybe it's a primary thing. In secondary heads wouldn't do the letters/newsletters etc.
