Hi, I am currently am doing a maternity cover as a science teacher. The school have just advertised for a permanent position from September and I would love to apply. However, I specialised in Chemistry and have limited experience (am NQT +2) of teaching A-level Chemistry. Saying that my Biology knowledge is very good and although I've had no experience of teaching it at A-level I think with some support I could do it.
So... what can I do or put in my application to at least help me get an IV?

If you are already in the school, and feel you are doing well, then go and ask the HoD Smile
Other than that, I'd put what you have already put - that you have experience teaching Chemistry A-level , and, although you haven't yet taught Biology A-level, you have qualifications XYZ, and feel it is something you could do with some initial support.

Are they really short of biologists, prettu unusual.
If you are why not sound it all informally inthe dept and possible come up with a plan that the exiaiting biology trachers do more KS5 and you do more KS3.
Failing that you need to big up your fascination with all things biological, read biological sciences review, bigpictureeducation and catalyst( latter 2 online for free)
