In one paper, of a new A level, my cohort did badly. Paper I taught. Other paper I taught okay but this one paper brought grades down.

Have history of good and very good results. This new subject and exam has clearly foxed me and I'm upset because I'm not sure what my part in it was. I felt I taught syllabus well. Clearly,, I'm missing something

Feel stuck and worried.

New specs always have an element of stab in the dark. And you do get modules that are weaker than others, even when taught by the same teacher.

You have to pick yourself and move on. Analyse the marking at question level to look for obvious weaknesses. Consult with colleagues in other schools to see if their experience is similar. Read and take on board the examiner's feedback. Get some scripts back.

Yep. Get scripts back, and go through the examiners report with a fine tooth comb. Ask for exam board training in your appraisal.

Have you read the examiners report and analysed your results using enhanced results or similar?
Assume they are y12 and now on linear courses so actually no real damage done to their chances if you can resolve any obvious issues this year coming?

have you got time to sign up for marking next year and get an inside view of what they are looking for?

Do you mind saying which subject? Our school usually gets stronger results for history, but with the new spec AS cohort this year we only got 1 A and even some very bright students, who did well in other subjects, got Ds and Es.

I don't know the ins and outs of which modules may have been problematic as I teach English, not History, but as they normally do a lot better than English, I was wondering whether the new spec AS history was particular harsh?

Would definitely request a range of scripts back to dig in to. Has the examiner's report been any use?

Thank you for posts.

Yes, ideas I was thinking about.

It was Drama. I usually teach English which has gone fine in the past.

I may be able to co- teach this unit next year, to share ideas with a colleague.

Can't seem to locate lead examiner's report yet. Will be going over that in real detail. Will also get a number of papers back.
