So for over a month now my oldest child who is 8 years old and usually loves school and refuses to stay home sick has been sent home nearly everyday for vomiting. We have taken him to several doctors... No one knows what is going on with him.... He recently told the doctor he poops blood now and then, so they did a fecal smear test ( if you have had one of these you know it's painful and no child would continue to be sick if they were faking after that)
He also told us his stomach " burns " a lot.. He says he tells his teacher and she tells him he is lying and to sit back down... We have an appointment tomorrow and he will be checked for ulcers ( I'm sure that's what it is) but I'm pissed because this stupid woman could t even be bothered to inform me that my child was making this complaint.... I am currently trying to get in touch with her to ask her myself if he is complaining of a burning sensation yet she won't return my phone calls or emails.... She could have written a note informing me of this. But no... She just tells him he is faking... Now my son hates going to school because his teacher calls him a liar, and refuses to call on him when he is trying to be a good student and raise his hand to answer a question.... I am ready to just home school him!!!

I'm not sure I understand, she tells him he is lying, but then sends him home on a daily basis for a month?
If he is at home with him everyday, are you not aware of this burning sensation?
I'm not trying to be facetious, just trying to understand the situation!

Too many questions- she tells him he's lying, but sends him home every day? Why didn't he tell you about the burning sensation?

Please be absolutely certain the teacher called your child a liar before you accuse her of saying that. You don't say how old your DS is, but most children have been known to exaggerate at times.

And why would a fecal smear test be painful?

It doesn't really add up. If she sends him home surely she is recognising that he feels ill. Are you sure he is relating what she says accurately?

Not relevant to your upset, but get him worked up for coeliac disease too. It can cause the sign you describe

Also not sure of what you are trying to say. Teachers do often tell a child to wait a while/drink some water etc etc, sometimes kids are looking for attention or to get out of something. Amazing how the droopiest child can suddenly perk up and gallop around the yard, yet suddenly go back to being pale and exhausted in class...

Clearly though in his case there is something genuine. Why didn't he tell you about this burning before?

Report
Littlemissjt · 03/03/2016 18:34

She could just be saying to wait and see if you feel worse or better. She must be taking him seriously if he is getting sent home. I would tell him to wait and see if he was feeling better to watch him and his peers to judge if I thought he was saying it due to being bullied as bullied kids often fake being ill. I am in no way saying this is what your son is doing, just saying this is something we consider.
We get moaned at for sending ill kids to the office frequently, not that I care, I'd rather annoy the busy office staff than ignore the child.
I hope the appointment goes well and you get to the route of the problem.

Gets sent home for vomiting- not for just belly pain. Yes I am aware of some burning sensations at home. But due to the fact that we do not keep him from eating between meals it is not as common for his stomach to burn at home. ( eating helps stop the burning feeling).... He is 8 years old and has never been known to lie about anything until the vomiting started becoming a normal a thing and he has just shut down ( if he feels it will cause conflict he will shutdown ).... This is a straight A student who has NEVER been absent more than 5 days the entire year, and will literally beg me to let him go to school even if he is sick with the flue. For a while we figured he had indigestion from eating so much hot sauce ( he loves it !) that's another reason we didn't think much of the burning at first.... We just figured he was causing heart burn or indigestion by eating so much hot sauce and peppers and such.... I have tried contacting her multiple times- and she refuses to respond. Even though all I want is a yes or no on the belly pains! He is usually a happy child; but since the vomiting and such has started he isn't as happy as he normally would be.... His school nurse is convinced this is all asthma ( which I have informed her that 4 doctors say he is not asthmatic ) He does have allergy shinners under his eyes but it's from allergies...

Perhaps OP meant his teacher is calling him a liar when he's saying his tummy hurts, but once he's vomited he's then been sent home.

But surely after 1/2 times the teacher will have learned the stomach burning is a precursor to him vomiting, especially if it's happened EVERY DAY for a MONTH?

Why are you still sending him to school if he's literally vomiting every single day? Who's taking care of him whilst he's being sent home from school? I'd have been sacked for leaving work early every day by now.

He didn't tell me because he is embarrassed by talking about his poop... He also knew he would miss more school.... He absolutely hates to miss school! I know it's odd but he loves to learn and I miserable staying home.... For a while he tried to hide it.. He doesn't like hospitals or doctors ( can't blame him they always want to give him shots or take blood)

For the person who ask why the fecal smear would be painful- he is 8 and they had to forcibly hold him down and retrieve a sample from inside his butt- that is painful.

I work from home as a service animal trainer. So I am able to care for him during the day and if I do have to work he can go with me since I own my business.

Why can't you just ask him yourself though?

I think you're overreacting hugely.

Your child says he's I'll, he gets sent home, that's all the teacher has to do, and they've done it.

And yes, as a PP said, why do you think a faecal smear would hurt? What do you think the smear would hurt!?

I have ask him. He says it is during school but I also need to know how often this is happening. And if it is REALLY happening. I am not their so in order to get the entire story I ask him, and then speak with the teacher.
Yes he does have to stay home for that day as well as the next- I feed him healthy meals at home- the schools here ( United States ) feed very fatty foods.

Here they take it straight from the source so that they know for a fact where the sample came from.

I'm assuming you're in the USA. Here a faecal smear test wouldn't have been done like that which is why people are querying it.

You kind of contradict yourself
.

The teacher brushed off the burning complaint, but so did you? You put it down to hot sauce, so why should she?

You also come across your child can do no wrong. Your DS didn't tell you he had blood in his poo because he didn't want to miss school? If he knew being sick would make him miss school why was he complaining to his teacher about the burning pain?

I'm not sure also I understand you saying you don't keep meal from him? Do the school starve him?

He could have a hernia, I've had one almost all my life and can feel the acid.

He could also be describing blood in his poo as something he ate or maybe straining.

Fairenuff · 03/03/2016 18:55

How old is he? Why do you need the teacher to confirm whether or not he had a burning sensation? She can only go on what he says anyway.

Just ask him.

Is he only being sick at school or at home as well? Do you see him being sick. I'm a bit muddled !
