Assessment - Dammed if we do and dammed if we don't!

Is anyone else really frustrated with the way that we are constantly expected to be all singing, all dancing, all performing circus seals in the classroom? The way that we are expected to show every child making progress in every lesson observation?

But when we we present the progress as data, we are told that we are assessing them too highly.

I am sick of it! Dumbing down to make the school look good. Rant and rage! angry

Damned wink

HopefulHattie Fri 19-Feb-16 13:25:31

No I'm dammed! ;-)

Mammysin Fri 19-Feb-16 13:27:44

are you an eager beaver ? grin

Hiddlesnake Fri 19-Feb-16 13:29:38

No, she's a circus seal.

HopefulHattie Fri 19-Feb-16 13:35:06

I'm not a seal or a beaver. Maybe you should read it again?

Mammysin Fri 19-Feb-16 13:48:58

I've reread this errors include exaggeration, cliché, a lazy metaphor, a statement wrongly phrased as a question, piece contains repetition and contradiction as well as the incorrect use of 'dammed'. Dumbing down indeed . Just a few things for you to chew mull over, hopefully you can build on this

Mammysin - Green for Growth: check your punctuation.

Mammysin Fri 19-Feb-16 16:41:41

Rustybear: yes, true re punctuation, at least I am not purporting to be a teacher. I'm afraid I don't understand "green for growth" - is it another seal/dam allusion ? 😃

RustyBear Fri 19-Feb-16 17:10:08

It's a marking scheme where you use pink and green highlighters to mark. 'Tickled pink' for stuff that meets the learning objective and 'green for growth' for things that need improving or could be improved.

Oh dear!Sad little lives. THAT is the whole problem!

HopefulHattie Fri 19-Feb-16 20:30:37

Check your punctuation Mammysin! Poor! Inadequate!

HopefulHattie Fri 19-Feb-16 20:31:47

'Dammed' was intentional. I knew I was too clever for Mumsnet!

Don't you use the Purple Pen of Progress then?

Personally I prefer the red pen of rubbish - or better still, Rollertick. grin

HopefulHattie Sat 20-Feb-16 14:24:26

Roller tick! I like that!
