People who have left teaching,what do you do now?

I qualified in 2013 but have been doing supply ever since and contemplating returning full time for a few years or leaving industry altogether.

So just curious what people have gone onto do really? I'm told teachers have lots of trasferrable skillsbut having applied for some jobs a few years ago admim based, I seem to be struggling with how to present that.

Primary or secondary teacher, and what was your first degree?
What do you see as your strengths in the wider work sense?
There are a lot of threads on here where people have listed some of the areas they've moved in to; tutoring, publishing, learning support. Have a search.

It totally depends as the PP has said on what your subject is, your degree etc etc. I taught secondary ICT/Computing and went back to being a computer programmer, as I had done this prior to doing my PGCE. That obviously won't apply to very many other people!

I'm in primary and based in the East Midland.

I graduated in 2005 with a degree in Drama with English Literature and then went into teaching adults in 2006! So I've always been a teacher. Unfortunately, work with the adults I am trained to work with (foreign students learning English) is very hard to come by up here, even more so with the cuts recently, so the chance of returning to that is not really viable!

I'd love an arts admin/education job but applied for loads of those straight out of uni and they're so competitive.

Ideally, I think I'd like an admin job of some kind that pays the bills so I can work on own arts therapy company idea in my spare time.

Oh, and I'm also a single parent, which makes everything a LOT harder!

Can you touch type? If so you may be able to get work doing secretarial temping. Once you have built that up and the agency knows you are good you may be able to move into Admin roles.

I have a Cambridge degree in English, Drama and Education, then did a PGCE and have been teaching primary ever since. I'm now at the stage where I really dislike my job but don't know what else I'm qualified for/might enjoy...
I actually don't dislike the teaching aspect of my job, it's everything else that's the problem!

My MIL was a primary teacher. After she left she owned a nursery for a while, then had a job working in a school office (which she really didn't enjoy). She's now retired

WinterIsNeverReallyComing that's what I'm concerned about will happen to me if I go back full time, that I'll get stuck there and then really won't be able to move to another field. I too love the teaching but hate all the other stuff, supply is perfect for that but as I am on my own, it's not really a viable option for the future as I can't rely on how much work I will get. Supply may work for you though, maybe give it a go.

colander1 I am pretty good at touch typing, I may look into talking to some recruitment agencies over half term and see what the situation is with transferable skills and see if they're of any help.

I'm thinking about looking at PPA or intervention posts. They would still be teaching but hopefully be a bit more secure as would be employed by the school as opposed to an agency.
